Help! I planned on buying a couple of bottles of North Korean beer on a DMZ tour but there was none available. I'm leaving Korea in a few days so can anyone please point me in the right direction?

-Supposedly some bar in Hongdae has it..
-the wikipedia article for the beer shows a picture "as poured in a pub in Itaewon" Rolling Eyes
-Some Wabars are rumored to have it but I've had no luck.

I'm starting to think the entire thing is a myth.

Thanks for any help.

Geckos and Wabars had it years ago - think 2007.

Roots Time in Hongdae had it up until a few months ago - I had one of their last bottles. They may have restocked. This is probably your only hope, but I promise nothing.

It ain't easy to find. Best bet would be to go back to 2007.

Nope, they don't have it. Neither does the North Korean supply store near Isu station (4 and 7 lines).

I even did a naver search, found a place. Only to go there and see it's gone.

A friend of mine had it two months ago, and went back to the same place (in Yatap) and it was gone.

They have lots at peace land in Paju/imjingak, its the staging area for the DMZ tour that doesn't include the JSA.

You can get there easy enough by subway and or bus.

Great! How long ago did you see it? I went on a JSA tour which included the gift shop in Camp Bonifas.

Are they only open on tour days? Sunday might be my only opportunity unless I can squeeze it in one morning this week....

I see I can take the green Gyeongi line to Paju. Where do I go from the station?

Thanks!

Wabar still sells Daedonggang beer. I saw bottles there last week.

Specifically the Wabar in Westerdom in Ilsan.

I don't want to get too far off topic, but... what is this North Korean supply store? What sort of things do they sell? Any more specific directions?

Curious.

It was mostly things like soju, or old herbal medicines. Lot's of herbs. Also, they have some stamps and small photos of what I assume are important mountains. It's really small.

Check it out on daum maps.

Just more wild goose chasing...

I called the Imjak Tourist Info people (031-953-4744). They said "always Taegonggang mekju isayo"). She barely spoke English and I barely speak Korean but she definitely knew what I was talking about. Well, on the very same day (today), my friend goes to Imjingak and tries to pick up some beer. He checked 3 different gift shops and found nothing.

The legend of the North Korean beer continues lol..

I called them (031-931-5771) and they said they don't have it. Thanks though.

I guess somebody drank them? I didn't try them because it was like 9,000 won a bottle.

Anyway.

Odusan Observatory in Paju has a rather large North Korean gift shop. It sells massive amounts of North Korean Booze.

@decafdave

Thats weird I only went two weeks ago, if it helps I got it at the gift shop opposite the kid railway thing next to the defunct old train. It had "철마 달리고 싶다" or something like that written on it, not the one next to the fences. It was 5000원 a bottle.

I wish you look in your quest.
