I'm pretty sure you can't do a permanent delete. |

I've also never ever posted an "update". Never will either.
I only log unto it from time to time and almost never more than once a day, if that. There have been weeks and weeks when I never logged in. If have a message on FB, I'll get an email notification and that's when I'll go in to check out what it is.
I never ever under any circumstances reveal any more info about myself than absolutely necessary and all personal business stays OFF FB. The stuff already out there I'm uncomfortable with, but that's the lowest price one must pay to use the thing.
and the only reason I ever use it is to stay in touch with people around the world I've befriended or am away from. Yes I can use e-mail but finding lost people from past is a nice utility if one wants it, and essentially I use it to keep in touch with people who spend more time on their FB than their emails. it's essentially a more sophisticated e-mail and I use it as such. 90% of my FB communicatin is thru the private message system rather than Wall Posts, updates.. "sharing" likes/dislikes and all other such nonsense. |

You should tell people you're doing it. I quit FB a couple of years ago. Last week I called a former employer for a reference and he said "didn't you un-friend me on Facebook?"
Apparently I had some explaining to do. |

My new name for Facebook these days is 'Fakebook.'

I find facebook very useful, and my friends (and hopefully me to) write very few posts I would consider fake. Most posts are either discussions, recommendations (movies, restaurants, internet pages, and so on), requests (need help with moving for example), event information, or status updates. You probably consider status updates as the fake part, and I have a couple of friends who posts updates with no relevant information for the rest of the world, but many of them are also very useful, such as when people are in in Korea.
I think it might have more to do with your friends than the website, but I think Facebook also shows you news based on your actions on facebook. Maybe they are showing you a lot of fake posts because you are clicking on them? At least for me it seems like the facebook news feed only shows the posts from people I regularly try to keep up to date with. |

Right. Photosharing is its main advantage i think.

Absolutely.
But then it creates all sorts of problems because you are forced to reject people eg who you work with. People that normally speaking, don't need to know that you don't especially like them.
I also reject friendship requests from budding acquintances if it is too soon to know if they will be a good friend or not. Which basically kills any budding friendship stone dead as well.
then their are the requests from complete strangers who are "networking"- sorry but I have to have at least met you before you get on my facebook.
Basically i reserve it for family members and well-known friends. That means i exclude a lot of people.
I dunno, same days I think it would be less hassle to simply delete FB and revert to email. |
