i used to volunteer a lot back home. I'd really like to find a place to volunteer in Korea. The problem is, I see so many of these full time volunteer positions. Obviously I work so I can't spend 8 hours a day out in the country side volunteering.
Is there any place that does weekend volunteer projects? Maybe afternoon or evening? |

Look up PLUR! (the exclamation mark is part of their name). They are on Facebook. They feed the homeless in different areas and collect clothes, etc., mostly on the weekends. |

Does anyone have experience volunteering at an orphanage in/near Seoul? What's the best way to get started? |

How do you even find time to volunteer? But good for you.

You can find plenty of things like this on Facebook.
OP, to be honest, most of the weekend volunteering projects are really lame. It takes a while to build the network to move in to more useful volunteering positions that don't have you just because you speak English. Realistically, if you want to volunteer in projects that are actually interesting you have to be living in one of the big cities (Seoul, Seoul, and Seoul again). What kind of things are you interested in volunteering in? Knowing that would make it easier to advise you. |

I'm just South of Seoul in Bundang. But I'm willing to work wherever I'm needed. I did all kinds of things state-side. I don't mind teaching or playing with orphan kids though. Man, I saw pictures of those guys and it just breaks my heart. I get a little teary eyed thinking about them and I'm 6 foot 200 pound former defensive lineman and kick boxer. But to think that those little dudes don't have a mom or dad to love and care for them, it just gets to me. |

Habitat for Humanity lets you volunteer on a Saturday. They have locations all throughout Korea.

For that kind of thing, Facebook is your friend. A 5 second search for orphanages and volunteer teaching in Korea on there will pull up quite a few things. There's a few things above that are possibly worth checking out. There's also stuff to look in to for volunteering with groups who work with environmental protection (government agencies and a couple of other things), human rights, welfare organisations, etc., etc. Drop me a PM if any thing like that interests you. |

I'd like to do some volunteering (preferably with conservation or agriculture if it's available) when I get to Korea. I've heard that you're not supposed to work a second job because it's outside the contract with the first employer, but that shouldn't apply to volunteering, right? |

lol, i kno what u mean. i saw a youtube clip of a korean orphanage and it also made me sad to see those cute kids with no motherly love.
but at least they are being fed, clothed and taken care of. i have seen some other youtube clips showing kids/babies being left to die. i think it was refereed to as "chinese death beds" |

Get me! this is my first post! but I saw this thread and I wanted in on the action too! I know this conversation happened back last summer but I was wondering if anyone had any recent information on volunteering? I am coming to South Korea (Cheonan) in 4 weeks and I will miss the buzz I get from volunteering. I have contacted an animal shelter in Asan but I would like to know of other options, possibly in conservation and nature?
Any help would be great, I have been researching but a lot of stuff is dated.
Thank you! |
