There used to be a really friendly, divey little joint called Uncle Don's in Indeogwon, but it got shut down due to noise complaints. That said, however, Don's wife Tiffany recently told my friend that they're supposed to open up again closer to Indeogwon Station in a larger space, which would really help in terms of having a bar to mingle at, as Happidus doesn't really fill the void. |
I heard that rumor too, but I thought the one about Don and Tiffany being on the run from the law in Busan was more interesting. The truth is that they're taking over Slang and making it into a "Live Bar" type deal for foreigners. I don't think that many people know about it because I don't think they've kept in touch with too many of their old customers. I know first hand though because my girlfriend is the lawyer who has assisted them in brokering the deal. |
I randomly met Don walking at the Art Park. Didn't sound like he's running a bar these days.
It seems like places just come and go here. What apparently used to be the Dugout is now called 라이브 (Live). Or perhaps it only changed location? Further, regarding Pirate Bar, I could find the pirate figure but no bar. Does it still exist and I somehow managed to miss it? Or is it gone? |

I think he does okay utilizing the foreign connections he made while running the bar.
I didn't know Dugout had closed, though it's not exactly surprising. He'd been there for about a year though, so it's possible that his lease was up and he moved, though that would be a bit odd considering the money he'd put into the place.
Pirate Bar isn't going anywhere, that place is always packed. The bar is just upstairs from the pirate, I'm not sure how you missed it.
At this point though, My Friends is definitely the best place in Sanbon to meet foreigners. It just opened a few weeks ago, but it's become an instant mecca in the area, bringing in as much of a crowd as Happidus. The staff speak English really well and they've got a 3,000 won cocktail happy hour running from 6-11. They'll have Western breakfast on Sundays (maybe Saturdays too) starting in September. |

The Dugout is still open in its usual location, although its usually only open Weds, Thurs, Fri, and Sat these days. That Live bar is a different bar in the same basement.
But yes, places often open and close with lell than a year inbetween. I miss that Turkish restaurant that used to be across from Emart under Bennigans. Now it is another pasta and pizza place, sigh. |

Good food at seriously exorbitant prices considering the serving sizes. |

I concur. The menu was really limited too, although I loved the Iskander Kebab. But it is/was nice to have more international options though. |

I generally don't eat a lot, and that was one of the few restaurants I've ever been to where I felt like one entree was far from filling. |

| Has Indeogwon improved any over the years? Any gyms near the station? How much is a cab ride at night to/from Itaewon? |

Cabbing both ways would be nuts - the only person I knew who did that ended up counting change for train fare before every paycheck. Last train leaves Indeogwon around 11 PM, getting you to Itae or Hongdae around midnight. The cab home is probably around 30,000 if you negotiate right/the guy runs the meter, higher if the driver is feeling ornery/you're really drunk. Back in 2010 I could get a ride for as low as around 23,000 if it was before midnight and I got a nice driver, though rates have increased somewhat. |
