|
|
Hey folks,
I am really depressed about having to post this, but my plans to take my rabbit back home with me from Korea have fallen through. A number of factors beyond my control, as well as the worry that a rabbit could not survive such a long trip in the luggage compartment of a plane even if I COULD arrange to have him on the flight with me, have forced me to find a new home for my wonderful fuzzy friend.
I got Gus from another member here on Dave's, and I have to be honest, he was not in the best condition when I first met him. Since arriving here, I've given him a new, frequently cleaned cage, trained him to use a litter pan, and improved his diet with the addition of fresh greens and other veggies. His health and attitude have improved greatly since I got him. He's going in to the vet within the next week or so for a nail trim and overall checkup, so I can make sure he's fit and healthy.
Gus is an adventurous rabbit, loves to explore, and is very happy to receive love and attention on his own terms. Like most rabbits, he doesn't like to be picked up, but he will crawl into a lap if a person is seated on the floor. He likes to do funny little dances when he's happy, and especially loves hanging out in my bathroom where the tile floor gives him the traction to run figure 8's around my legs while I'm brushing my teeth. He doesn't bite unless a person acts aggressively toward him, and is pretty friendly with people. Not sure how he gets on with other animals, as he's never been around them in my presence. He's great company, fairly quiet, and doesn't generate a lot of odor if his cage is cleaned weekly and the litter pan is changed frequently. He uses the litter pan exclusively for urination now, though his "pellets" will wind up everywhere. (They're dry and odorless, though, and easy to sweep up.) He will chew on things, and must do so to keep his teeth worn down, so providing him with things to chew on (like wood blocks or cardboard tubes) is important. He's fairly well trained against chewing on wires, however.
Gus is a tri-color (would be called "calico" if he were a cat), probably mixed-breed bunny with definite lionhead genes in him. He has a cool little bunny mullet. Very handsome fellow. He's about the size of a loaf of bread, or an American football, but as he does not enjoy being picked up, I haven't properly weighed or measured him. I can provide pictures via email, but don't know how to post them on the forum.
Because I need to have him placed in a home before the end of September (perhaps sooner if my school decides to act on their threats to send me home early due to my recent health issues), I'm not going to ask for an adoption fee. (I wouldn't say no to a voluntary donation to cover some of his vet costs--every bit would help right now--but I'm not worried about it.) I would prefer that Gus go to a home with an experienced rabbit owner, or any animal lover willing to do the research and put in the effort to care for a rabbit, as it is not like caring for a cat or a dog.
Gus will come with his cage (still in good condition), litter pan, water bottles, food dish, a pet carrier, a small comb, a nail trimmer (he doesn't like it when I try to do it, which is why I'm taking him to the vet this time), a large green towel (came with him when I got him, and he likes it), and whatever food/hay/litter I have on hand when he goes to his new home.
I live in Anyang, just south of Seoul, about a mile from Pyeongchon station. I am willing to meet at a halfway point with Gus and his supplies, or someone can come to my apartment to pick him up.
If you are interested, either PM me here for my phone #, or email me at gypsymaria AT gmail DOT com.
Serious inquiries only, please. Any trolls that think I should set him free in a park or want him for dinner may look elsewhere for their entertainment. Also, please no lectures about what a horrible pet owner I am for giving up my rabbit. I wanted to be his forever-person, but circumstances changed so I couldn't be, and I feel terrible about it. I'm doing the best I can by him now by trying to find him another loving home. |

I'm teaching a book called Wagon Wheels right now. The characters are free slaves moving west. They spend a winter with no food on the Kansas prairie. They ate cornmeal mush for every meal. A rabbit would have been a God-send for those poor hungry folks.
I hope Gus can find a home where they respect him as a living creature and not as a potential stew.
Good luck, Gus! |

Bumping this because I might be leaving within 6 weeks instead of 10. Health problems have interfered with my teaching to the point where they're trying to usher in a replacement as fast as they can. Which means I really have to hustle to find a home for Gus.
This is a great rabbit. If you're going to be here in Korea for awhile, and are lonely or just really like having a fuzzy little friend to chill with, Gus is the rabbit for you. He's not as demanding as a cat or a dog, though he's affectionate in his own way, and he's very quiet and fairly clean.

I've about 6 weeks left here in Korea (presuming I don't get shipped out sooner, but it's looking more and more like I'll be able to finish this contract), and Gus still needs a home!
The sooner Gus has a new home, the happier I (and he) will be! He has a LOT OF STUFF, including a fairly new cage (68x44x44 cm), TWO water bottles, food bowl, litter pan, nail trimmer, comb, big towel, pet carrier, and any hay/food/litter I have on hand when you take him. I am also willing to CARRY all of this stuff to a meeting place, if necessary, though pick-up would be appreciated. Alternatively, you could pick him up at my place, and I will HELP YOU carry his things back to your place (within a reasonable distance), and help you get him settled in. I'll do just about anything to get this guy into a good home ASAP!
I know there's someone out there who needs a little furry friend. Don't be shy. |

I only have about a month left before I leave. Gus still needs a home, or he's going to wind up at a shelter. I don't really have any other alternatives. Please consider adopting this awesome rabbit! |

Leaving the country on the 24th of September. If I can't re-home Gus by then, I will sadly have to take him to a shelter, where he will likely be put to sleep. Last chance, folks! Only about 3 weeks! Best time for me to bring him to his new home would be during the Chuseok holiday and some of the following days, 10-15th of September. Seriously, folks, I'm willing to take this guy on a KTX to Busan if necessary. Whatever it takes. I just want him to find a good home. |

Bump- and good luck with the bunny. He looks like a great pet. (Rabbits make AWESOME apartment pets.)
I'd take him myself, but our flat is no pets, and a new baby arrives soon...no room in our house or our lives right now. But somebody could give this guy a nice home...

Good news! I have found a home for the rabbit. Just waiting to find out when the best day is to transport him to his new home.
Thanks to everyone for your interest and support. I'm so glad Gus will have a new, loving home. |
