There is a satellite offic in Portland. When I was living there in 2009 the guy wanted me to work for him part time. He suggested I go into universities and talk with department heads. Asking them to steer their students towards a year working overseas.
The problem came when I asked how I would be paid. He said that if anybody from the school I visited signed on and was hired I would get some money. I asked how I would ever know if that happened? He said, "don't worry, I will tell you"...ha ha ha Yeah right. Good day, sir. |

Hi,
I'm new here and I have been in contact with Korvia. Someone from Korvia contacted me via email in really broken English basically telling me that I should get a teaching certificate. They said they weren't endorsing any specific company but had a link to a TEFL program.
Their words: "Market situation is cutthroat competitive. So even GEPIK(Gyeoggi education board) would like to recommend teachers who are level 2( one full year experience or TESOL certification.)
In this case, I dont think there isnt way that we could get through this without certification. If you are interested in getting on you can check out follow information. http://www.korvia.com/index.php/articles/290-get-certified-tesol-tefl-and-earn-more-salary-epik-smoe-gepik.html
We are just giving English teacher a good deal, but we dont get any credit for people assigning this course. If you getting this certification, you are not only broadening your opportunity, but also upgrade your pay scale 2.0 million KRW to 2.1 million KRW.
Final decision would be your choice, and I just would like to let you know there is chance that you could broaden your possibility and get more payment as well. "
Is this common? Other agencies that I talked to didn't seem to have a problem with the fact that I didn't have a certificate. |
Getting a TEFL certificate is an investment. You might make 100,000 more per month, so 100,000x12=1.2 mil, minus $200-$400 cost of program= at least 700,000 more per year. Is it worth your time? You decide.
However I don't agree with anyone who says you can't find jobs without one. From what I've seen, most employers couldn't care less about them. Some don't even know what it is. Honestly, if job opprotunities are the only reason for taking the course, you might be better off just hiring a professional photographer and wearing a tux for your photo. |
