|
|
Hey everyone! I just arrived in Korea about 4 days ago and really like it so far. The only problem is, I have had a horrible time adjusting to the sleep schedule. I keep waking up around 3-4 am and cannot fall back to sleep. I don't take naps during the day, and I do exercise, so I'm not sure what the problem is...
If anyone has any advice for me, I would really appreciate it!!

Rule of thumb for recovering from jet lag is one day for every time zone crossed. Of course your milage may vary, but somewhere between a week and two weeks is normal.

| You should be fine in time. I think just continuing what you are doing (exercise, no naps during the day) should help. Try to make a habit of going to bed around the same time every night and try to do the same routine before sleeping (like brushing your teeth or reading or whatever). |

| Melatonin is pretty good at getting rid of jetlag, but I've never bought it in Korea, and I'm not sure if you can get it here. Maybe somewhere you can buy vitamins? |

Everyone responds differently to jet lag, ashnicole. With me, I've been going to bed at around 11:30 p.m. and waking up at around 8. Sometimes, I'll wake up at 3 or 4 and go back to sleep. It's not unusual.
Remember, there is a 14-hour time difference between some parts of the US and Korea. That's a major difference, obviously. The jet lag will be over and done with by 2 weeks or so max. I've been been here for a week, and I feel very little jet lag now.
As far as melatonin, you can't really get it in Korea except at the black market store in some cases. I am referring to the red door in Seoul. I bought from there once. If someone knows some in the military, they can get it for you. |

Utter nonsense, most non-han yak pharmacies have it.
Besides which, melatonin is useless, go to a doctor instead (about 8000 won) and get a script for Valium or Xanax instead, with prescription sleeping pills. Seven sleeping pills and 21 Xanax will run you about 9000 won. |

Really? Since when? I remember trying to get it back in 2008, and I was told that Korea didn't have it. I guess the Korean person who told me that was full of it.
Personally, I don't like sleeping pills. I feel worse the next day. I have never had xanax. Anyway, this is jet lag. A person just has to wait this out for a week or so. |
