is eating that much sugar (fruit or not) a good thing? Seems like your insulin will be going crazy.

She'll probably be eating less sugar than the average American. And she admitted this was a very temporary arrangement. But I agree, the problem with this diet long-term would be the heavy carb intake and the high sugar intake.

I do a raw vegan diet for a few weeks if I feel like I've put on some weight - just eating vegetables, a few fruits (like watermelon, grapes, papaya) and nuts for 2 weeks. Helps me drop the weight super quickly but still maintain muscle mass. Cool

So I decided to ease into a HCRV lifestyle based on the 80/10/10 book by Douglas N. Graham.
http://www.amazon.com/80-10-Diet/dp/1893831248
I totally didn't just dl the PDF of this absurdly overpriced book. Nope, I didn't do that.

I have decided to ease into the diet during my last few weeks in Korea. So I allow myself unlimited fruit for breakfast and lunch and then I will eat a piece of fruit before dinner and try to keep it low fat as well and under 500 calories.

As some of you may know, I am currently on a VLCD. Well, pretty much a starvation diet. I have major sugar cravings and already just eating so much fruit makes me feel a lot more pleasant. I am adding in more running which is something I had difficulty with on my previous diet due to lack of energy. One area that will be tough is weaning off of caffeine.

I can't emphasize this enough: I am doing this for personal reasons. I totally approve of and support eating animal flesh. I'm going vegan, but I'm not going vegan. Wink

30 portions of the same thing?

How about... 30 different fresh whole foods a day. Nothing in a box or shelved for months.

Now THAT would be a diverse, healthy way to eat. A dozen kinds of fresh vegetables a day, a half dozen kinds of fresh fruit, a half dozen kinds of fresh dairy and nuts, a few kinds of meat and fish. What a variety of nutrients, vitamins, minerals, proteins and essential lipids and amino acids! 30 different whole foods. Imagine that.

Everything in moderation, literally. Everything non-manufactured, that is.

It's an 80/10/10 diet. So 80% carbs 10% protein 10% (or lower) fat.

For brekkie, I ate bananas. For lunch I am eating pears. Basically, what's cheap and available. I am soo full, you have to really stretch the stomach out to fit in adequate calories.

Any guesses on how much a normal one of those Korean pears weight? Maybe I am trying to overeat? No idea. I got a set of 2 for 980 won so cheap cheap.

What does the 80/10/10 diet hold for hypo- or hyper-glycemics? I'm reticent to try to convert someone to my dietary scheme, particularly if they are well-informed and have done the research, but I have low blood sugar and I'm pretty sure that kind of diet would be a disaster.

The ADA recommends protein intakes of 10-15%, and says Americans consume too much protein. I view this with great suspicion. Anything that suggests that a level of protein of about 25% is too much, which is what is provided by legumes, spinach, and broccoli (actually the latter two are 30% protein), should be viewed with great skepticism.

My younger sister was chubby, but changed over a year after adopting a raw food diet. There is a book on amazon that called "Living Raw Food: Get the Glow with More Recipes from Pure Food and Wine." She bought the book for me since I have a beer gut.

http://www.amazon.com/Living-Raw-Food-Glow-Recipes/dp/0061458473/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307508998&sr=8-1

I couldn't follow it due to lack of discipline (beer, fast food), but she went from chubby to very healthy.

I am feeling unwell with this. I don't know if it's the caffeine withdrawals, but I have had major headaches and I had some bad ear pains starting 2 nights ago. My equilibrium feels off. I can see I am actually consuming MORE calories during the day (normally I'd eat 250 between breakfast and lunch) so I don't think it's because of that.

I ate some protein last night and slept for 12 hours. My equilibrium still feels off, but I'm no longer in pain.

I am thinking of trying this out in America where I can follow the diet with a friend and can probably purchase inexpensive organic produce in bulk. Also, this way maybe I can have a week without work or stress as I have had a very stressful week on account of my school closing or now just maybve changing owners. Oy!

I am beginning to question low protein. I miss my boiled egg and tea brekkie. I think maybe I could up the carbs, though, and eat 1 banana or piece of fruit a day to end sugar cravings and subsequent binges. qq

You should question low protein! But I advise you to stay the course, Morgan Spurlock style, unless you really start to feel ill or excessive pain.

Keep going Dorothy. I fasted for 5 days and then 6 days at separate times. Byt the third day I had headaches and was dizzy and all manner of other small things came and went. But I just kept trusting that it was only my body adapting to that situation and there was no danger. That is true. There is nothing dangerous about eating fruit. It is great. Your body is just catching up.

But I have a suggestion. Don't feel like you have to eat all the calories in one sitting. There is too much water and fibre in fruit that you will indeed stretch your stomach. Instead just eat until you wanna stop. Then eat later when you are hungry. I find that I am often hungry again 15min after eating a piece of fruit if not sooner. Just eat 6 times per day. That will taste and feel better too.

what most people fail to realize on these crazy fad diets...Atkins, Low Carb, High Protein, etc. is that you're neglecting your body of something it needs

those nutrients and vitamins in the regular food you eat is important to your health

Diets are crap...learning Portion Control and realizing "dieting" without exercise is pretty much a waste of time since almost 99% eventually end up re-gain the weight
