could also mean an additional week of paid vacation.
someone at your school should be able to provide you with that information. Surely someone asks speaks a little English? anyone within the administrative staff?
if internal inquiries fail, ask any other NET that teaches in a PS in your immediate area/vicinity.
p.s. another way to learn this is to ask an English speaking K teacher in the school whether they get extra 'points' for working at this school/in this area. If the answer is yes, odds are it's labeled/considered a rural school. |

| Silly question, but have you looked in your contract? I work in the Jeolla-buk province, but my contract has a list of 5-6 cities in Article 13 Section 3 that are considered rural. If yours isn't listed then you might not get the allowance. You can always call the edu office or your friendly coordinator. Best of luck and I hope you luck into some extra cash! |

based on his location, it's a gepik contract, which doesn't state such stuff. |

| GEPIK is for Gyeongi-do only. EPIK is for most other provinces and education offices. Since they are living between Ulsan and Busan they are not GEPIK and should check their contract anyways. (Incheon Office of Education had the same sort of detailing in their contract. A look couldn't hurt.) |

| I teach at 3 different schools in Gyeongsan, right outside of Daegu, One of my schools has 48 kids the other has 60, and my HS has about 400. The year before I had a total of 150 kids between 3 schools. I've never got rural because the supervisor says I live in town and it's not rural. |

I teach at 2 schools. My main school is in the city and the second school (less than 40 students) is 20 minute bus ride away. Although I live in the city, I get rural and second school allowance (total 200K/mon) because I have to take a taxi or bus to get to the second school twice a week. But actually, I bought a used car so the allowance actually finances my auto expenses. |

My bus ride was 40-50 mins and still didn't get it. I have a car now so it's a bit better. |

| If it is Onsan Elem, the school history doesn't say anything about becoming a '벽지 학교'. (however it was closed down for low attendance once). |

Don't ask other people. My school a few years back had an elementary school just next door. The new teacher came there, that school called my school to ask some questions about pay and they found I was getting rural pay and promptly informed that school that we were NOT rural. I lost my rural bonus and they took the old rural pay back.

So all the schools got together on this and submitted this request to GEPIK...and you were privy to this information exactly how? |

The head GEPIK coordinator told everyone at GEPIK orientation. |
