I have a 13mo visa but it expires in 12 months. I am confused by this. Can someone explain? Am I allowed to stay in the country a month after it finishes?

Do you mean that your contract expires in 12 months but your visa is for 13 months? If so, this is standard now, as schools often were extending visas by a couple days because the new teacher wasn't there yet, a pain in the ass for immigration and for the individuals involved. It provides you some extra wiggle room on the end of your contract if your school needs you around.
