Has anybody broken contract with employer after they have received their VISA but before they have gone to Korea with the employer paying the airfare? is their any implications apart from paying back the airfare? or does immigration treated it the same as a midnight run?

I ask because a family member is ill and I have a few weeks still to go before I leave Korea, however I think if this family member falls seriously ill I will probably decide not to go to Korea and instead find employment in my home country for a suitable time so I can be close to the family member and probably won't decide to go to Korea for a few more years.

I wouldn't do anything then. Apologize if they email, and then stop communicating with the school. Re-apply when the time is right.

Schools cancel too. It's not payback, but it is part of the game. If they are a good school, I am sure another teacher will fill the spot soon.

I knew a guy who backed out after the hagwon had applied for the visa for him and he had to wait 3 months for the paperwork to expire.

If they already bought the ticket then they can get most of the money refunded if not all. Don't worry about it.

Yes, you will have to wait 3 months for your visa paperwork to 'expire', because you haven't received your ARC card yet. But sounds like you're going to be there for a while so it shouldn't be a problem. Basically your visa will expire in 90 days if you don't get your residence card, so you have to wait for that until you can get a new visa. Once that happens you'll run into no problems. It's done quite often.. A lot of people get cold feet Wink
