There is an online program at abcte.org for the states.
Just read carefully and insure what you want to teach is accepted in the state you want to teach it.
It has limited acceptance across the states.
I also might add, their tests are not easy. They are VERY hard. |
Major thanks for this link.
Like the OP, I've also got a BBA and was dreading the thought of having to go back and do a full B.Ed. in the States or something. I looked at alternate cert. routes but they're only for high school in my state and I'm looking at Elementary. Being able to knock out some courses online while here would be great.
Thanks again. |
you can do a masters of teaching completely online through university of tasmania. i was considering it, but the workload looks pretty goddamn heavy. you might have the time for it. |

| As I have stated before, I do actually have maybe 2 or 3 "A"'s and probably several "B"'s. Don't ask about some low but barely passing marks. But I definately have some "C"'s and "C+"'s too. I'm kind of all over the place. If I can find a teaching school but can't be certified because of marks that would defeat the purpose. I would hate to take my BEd and then have the province not certify me because of my undergrad marks. I would probably take some courses in math as some other subjects such as history and english would be a dime a dozen. But do international schools, Taiwan, Middle East, etc care whether you studied Elementary or Middle/ High School education? |

Weigookin- My transcript from my first degree sounds similar to yours. I didn't have any problems getting my certification from my province. I could be wrong but I think that in my case, the BC college of teachers were looking at my B.Ed courses, practicum reports and my faculty of education's recommendation letter. I always assumed that if you completed all of the requirements for a B.Ed which includes your practicum then you should get your certification.
One other thing, I just found out from another teacher that you can do your B.Ed through University of Phoenix online. |

I am currently doing my teaching certification and master's through the College of New Jersey. They run programs in the summer in Spain, Bangkok, and South Africa. It's two summers plus an online course and teaching practicum for the certifcate (I'm doing high school English) and a third summer for the master's.
I went for my first summer this year in Spain and it was fantastic. Great professors, challenging courses, etc. I highly recommend it.
The certification can be used internationally and in the states if you are American. They have had some luck getting it crossed over into Canada (I'm Canadian) espcially with work experience.
If you are currently working, you can often do your practicum within your own job, so you can still make money while doing your practicum.
I would be happy to answer any questions about this program through PM.

| Oh, and as a P.S. , my marks were not particularily stellar in my undergrad either. You submit an essay and two letters of recommendation with your application. I think those and my work experience as a teacher were what helped me to get into the program. |

Does that include Public School in Korea? I assume it reflects better doing that than a hogwon. I'm sure I can get some reference letters from teachers here if that's counted. But it would prob be 2 or 3 years away, as I want to finish paying off debt and save up cash to pay for school.
As a non resident of Canada, I prob wouldn't qualify for student loan. Would I have to be back home for 6 months to be considered a resident? I know it's like that for health care. |

I am a non resident of Canada as well, so I didn't try for loans out of Canada. Just saved up the money for the New Jersey program by putting aside $800 a month from Sept of last year till June of this year.
Most of my experience in Korea has been working at a business hagwon. My reference letters were written by the national manager of the hagwon (a guy from Australia) and my center director who at the time was American. |

Has anyone had any experience with Drexel University Online? I'm looking into getting a post-Bachelor's teaching certification to boost my qualifications while in Korea (there are a lot of people with MATs and MEds at my primary school, and all I have is a lowly BA) and also to help me get a job back home when (if?) I return in the near-ish future.

It appears they have Master's Degrees also, and the Post-BA teaching certification's courses can be used towards a Master's program with the university later on. The thing that stands out to me most about this program is that I can do all the courses online AND do the practicum while I'm in Korea at a DODDS school.
Anyway, any experiences or rumors about this program? I'm still about a year away from applying so I'm still shopping around... |

30 credits at 750 USD a credit for a post-grad cert.? Absolutely outrageous. |

Yeah, I wanted a program where I could do the practicum while overseas...they seem to be really hard to find. Most of them want you to do the practicum in the state where you'll be getting licensed (which makes sense and everything, but I have a family in Korea and really can't transport them across the world so I can do a 12 week practicum...)
It seems impossible to find another such program for a reasonable rate. MATs are stinking expensive... |
