I guarantee you cant get a job in Canada without speaking english...unless you work for a foreign company where no body speaks english.
Tuition is sky high for foreign students, on average 10 times more than Canadian students. Universities wouldn't pass up that kind of money !! |

they pay up-front for the degree. |
That and they typically have out of this world GPAs in their fields of study.... |
Except that Asian students at US schools have drop out rates higher than that of American students. |
Chalk it up to cultural adjustments in many cases...
Typically however, foreign students at the University level are top of their class, have studied their butts off and pay far higher tuition. The University likes this because it puts more money in their coffers but the people that end up as foreign students at the big 10 Unis in the US are the cream of the crop.... |

| And just what is 'Pac-12'? Not saying it to be condescending, just never heard of it. |

Pac-12 refers to an athletic conference on the US west coast consisting of 12 schools. It used to be the Pac-10, but two more schools were added to it. I wouldn't know what it is either, but I went to a Pac-10 school. |

The days of just having marks to float you to a great job are over - if that ever was in the West.
Being a human calculation machine without personality of sociability would get you plugged into the wall at a medium-low level position (data entry) but wouldn't get you to higher spots. This has been a problem with University students for generations, regardless of race. |

I can tell you all about the PAC-12, WAC and NFL, though.
BTW-I recently found the meaning of "CHAV", and I'm guessing it has something to do with FIFA/EUFA/EPL.

That's because you aren't European. |

Not talking about jobs...talking about FOREIGN STUDENTS that attend top US universities.
Then again, graduates of top US Universities (such as MIT, Harvard...) typically have very little trouble securing a position.... |

| They may if they have language problems. I've seen many A+ students passed up because they have to walk around with a dictionary. It's a problem with Foreign Students. |

Not that being Mr./Ms. Socialite guarantees things either if you have the work ethic and effort of a sloth.
My dad could fall under having not the greatest social skills and being a geek and nerd, but he was President of his accounting company. Meanwhile his brother hung out with all the society of their hometown (their father, my grandad, was CEO of a bank) but is now borderline homeless (and also got grandad's bank in a bunch of hot water in the 80s during the S&L crisis). My dad also holds leadership positions in several organizations with memberships in the hundreds. Is he Mr. Social at all the gatherings, no. Why then? Because he is trustworthy, accurate, no-nonsense, diligent, and sees things through.
The question is- Who do you trust with your money? Yeah, that boring Foreign student geek. You know the one who actually follows his parents advice to save and not go out partying. Not the one whose lifestyle says "Live for the moment". Look past the superficiality of social silver tongues and check the substance underneath.
Maybe we should put some more boring pocket protector types in charge of stuff and fewer socialites. |

Reminds me of a scene from Charlies Angels when Lucy Lu waltses into the room full of geeks...and sexually dominates them.
There is a dangerous niavety in geeks. Have one of them running your company, and they'll sell it and all therein for a kiss from a pretty gal.
Not kidding. That kind of social ignorance that nerds and young people have is very dangerous and harmful even to themselves. That's why I say they are used in most cases. |

Well, I'll go with the successful model in my life that walked the walk over various theories from the Dave's peanut gallery anyday.
Go ahead and bank your business on "social skills". In a few cases it might work, but being trustworthy with large sums of money is more valuable than a silver tongue.
Silver-tonguers are a dime-a-dozen. People who won't let money get to their heads and abuse their position are rare.
Seriously, what kind of thinking is this...
"So who should we elect as treasurer for our organization?"
"Well we have this guy who runs his own business and has served on boards before."
"BUT WAIT, remember Charlie's Angels!!! Lucy Liu would seduce this guy. We can't have him on our board. Charlie's Angel's people. CHARLIE'S ANGELS."
So what, we should put some guy like Biff Tannen in charge? Hey, he ran a casino...
Fail of business thinking. |
