Anyone know of a good place or two? Maybe in Bohol as well?
Im sure there are tons of scuba diving "outlets", so its hard to choose which to go with.

I didn't like any of the ones in metro Cebu (mostly over on Mactan).
There are some nice ones out in Cebu province but unless you are headed out that way won't be using them (usually a day's travel (bus and boat) from the city).
On Bohol (Alona Beach) there are lots on the beach and the only ones I would avoid are the Korean ones at the south end of the beach.
I particularly liked the dive shop at Alona Tropical (mostly European divers) and the one next to Oops Bar. Genesis was also pretty good but I haven't gone out with them for a few years so things may have changed.
IF you are in town rather than out at the beach then the shop at Bohol Tropics resort is decent as well.

| How much would a beginners course be in Cebu and what's it like for diving there? i.e. How would it compare to Thailand? |

A PADI cert (Cebu area or Bohol) will run you about $250-300 (depending on your chosen dive sites).
Diving there (Bohol) is comparable to anything in Thailand.
It is a pretty fair boat ride from anywhere around (metro) Cebu city to any decent dive site (they usually just cross over to Bohol).
