Does anyone know how long it actually takes to get a CBC apostilled?
Around how many weeks, if you send it in by mail with return postage? |
They said 4-8 weeks. It would be faster if you wired money to a friend and gave the friend an authorization by signing something, and have the friend mail everything to some service. Why risk it? It's too stressful. |

Yes, the best thing would be if you're lucky enough to have someone in or near Washington DC. Send it to them, they can do it in person for you within two hours flat, on any weekday morning. See here for a step-by-step of the in-person process. It's not difficult. And there is no need to authorize anyone to act on your behalf, they don't care if the person bringing it in is not the one whose name is on the CBC.
Total cost involved would be a small fraction of what the "pros" charge, and speed would be about the same. |

| Well well well. I checked my bank account today--like I have for the last 2-3 weeks--and my $8 check finally got processed. It's five weeks after I sent it off. Anyone have experience as to how long it will take from now? |

I sent mine June 30th, and check was processed on August 23rd. And as of now I have not received anything at all! I think I might just be one of the unlucky ones. But I was wondering the same thing, as I want to be out of the states by October, ehhh... |

Yeah, I shouldn't have risked it, because now I believe that my CBC is lost. I had 2 of them and sent them out together about 8 weeks ago. Unfortunately, I have no way to track it, because I sent it regular post. So I probably have to start from scratch on the whole process! |

| I doubt it is lost. If you send it US mail it takes another few weeks over the regular 5 weeks. This is now right on the DOS webpage. Plan on about 9 weeks. It was a good idea ordering two CRCs but I bad idea sending them out together. If you had reserved one some states will apostille a federal CRC with a notorized afidavit. |

Also, they have not cashed my check yet. After 8 weeks that probably means it's lost. I'll wait a few weeks more but I doubt anything will come of it. |

| Ha. I didn't bother checking the mail Friday or Saturday because I figured DC had just cashed the check and that it wouldn't be here for a few more days at least. But I just went down to the mailbox (today is Sunday) and there it was. Happy day! For those of you wondering....Took 5 weeks and a day. |

Yours only took 5 weeks, so there's a good chance that mine is lost. Thanks for the update.
Has anyone's CBC taken 8+ weeks to process? |

Actually sing81 I have been waiting 8 weeks plus (sent June 30th)! They did process the $8.00 check on the 23rd of August, but I have not received anything in the mail as of yet. It has been more than 2 weeks. I have called the Office of Authentications and of course the person who answers the line does not have any information because she is only answering routed calls. So I am also wondering if my documents have been lost in the mail. By the way did you send a prepaid return envelope with your documents? Not being in the know of the whole tedious "process" I did not think it would be necessary to send a prepaid return envelope, and I am pretty sure that has slowed down my process. |

I sent it there priority without tracking at the end of July, and with no prepaid return envelope. Maybe that's why it's taking so long. I'll wait 2 more weeks or so.
Update: I checked the website and that seems to be the problem. I can't believe I made such a silly mistake by not sending the return envelope. I meant to send it, but I forgot to include it. A delay is ok as long as they don't throw my CBCs away. |

| It took 8 weeks +3 days, I got it 1 week before the deadline. I thought it was lost too. Our substitute postal carrier puts things in the wrong box so I was stressed. Those who got it in 5 weeks used FedEx not US Mail. US Mail gets sent to irradiation Fedex does not. |

Actually, I got mine in 5 weeks and used the US Mail. I put a return envelope in it, though, so that probably helped. I'm really beginning to think this whole thing is a bit of the old hit and miss.
But to everyone else who sends it out after reading these posts. Do it as early as you can, include a self-addressed stamped envelope, and then kick back with a few beers. (I know....easy for me to say this now that I got mine back)
And read this page carefully...http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/ |
