Just put your hair in a ponytail for the resume photo, no one knew I had long hair til I arrived at the school, and it's never been a problem.

seriously, it's 2011. if you were to work in a "real" job in the west, you'd be made to realise a haircut and acceptable appearance goes a helluva long way.

Yea, well, I have no plans to sign my soul over to corporate America. I plan on being a high school teacher when I get back. I'm just doing the ESL thing for a year for fun/experience/money. And FYI, the first pictures I sent recruiters was me in slacks and a nice shirt, business casual, clean shaven, and totally "acceptable appearance". I actually had two recruiters ask me to send more casual photos. If I have problems finding a job because of my hair, it's more than likely due to narrow minded attitudes like yours than it is because of my appearance.

Truth. Why the hell would anyone want to work for someone/an organisation that rejects male candidates solely based on the length of their hair.

Also OP, I've found Public Schools are less likely to hire based on appearance than Hagwons. At my EPIK orientation, 3 or 4 of the guys had longish hair, out of about 80. Never seen a guy with long hair who works in a hagwon though...

I used to have really long hair too, and I'm sure you notice, you get more staring looks than compliments. Any man with hair past his ears will automatically be labeled a hippie/druggie. It doesn't matter if you never touch the stuff and hate Woodstock music, that's how you are seen due to the stigma with long hair. I liked my hair, but you have to play the game and cut it off or go into food service where tattoos and long hair are par for the course.

I like to think they're staring because I'm so damn good looking. Cool

I've known a few long-haired hagwon teachers, so it's not a complete dealbreaker. However there are bound to be a few schools who will be put off by it.

Once you're hired you can grow them long. My experience is a history of getting jobs after an expensive haircut and getting knock-backs beforehand. If OP believes his long hair makes him attractive then he can live by that sword. If others beg to differ (especially the ones who make decisions), then the OP has to re-assess the situation. OP seems to be in transion from dharma to artha at moment, and the un-worldly more often than not makes foolish decisions during that time.

The hair is not the reason you are getting no responses.

I suggest you review your resume and other application documents along with whatever preferences you sent to the recruiters as far as placement is concerned.

There may be some issues slowing you down in how you presented yourself in these documents.

I work with lots of people with long hair, and many of them have been promoted. If you are tall, white, and blonde, you can find a job. You're just not looking in the right place yet.

Contact more recruiters. If you haven't tried StarTeachers (http://starteachers.net), do that. Make a post asking for more recruiters.

Unless your appearance is truly horrifying, it's really not the reason why you haven't gotten a job. Oh, and I would actually recommend NOT putting it in a ponytail, because Koreans think that's weird. Just a tip! Good luck! PM me if you have any questions or need any advice :)

Wait... are all your visa documents completed and is that stated in your emails?

If not, you will probably not get any responses.

i have a big shaggy head on me and have had no complaints thus far. I just had a shave before sending my picture and keep my hair to a medium to long length. It's not long enough for a pony tail but i need a hairband playing football type of long.

My principal actually said i had a great appearance Smile maintain that mane man

Go for a mullet, it will meet all requirements. Business at the front, party at the back. I can't imagine why such a wonderful invention would go out of fashion.
