| Who has lived in or visited these places? Basically, I am looking for an urban location; a place that has a lot of social and cultural activities, etc. I have contract offers in both of these cities, and I would like to know more about these places; pros, cons, general advice. I originally wanted something as close to Seoul as possible, but after more research, Korean blog reading and job hunting, I am much more opened minded. |

Daegu is dire. Can't speak to Ansan. Busan is best. |

I really disagree about some of these ad hoc posts about a city being dire, etc.
It speaks volumes about the poster far more than the city. Daegu has 2.75 million people and many teachers who love the place and swear by it. Every city has its pros and cons.
As to the OP it depends on what YOU are looking for. Do you want a quiet place v. a big city that is busier, do you want easy access to outdoors or are you an urban person? Do you prefer a large foreign community or a quiter place with not so many foreigners?
One would need to know what you're looking for before giving advice. |

| I am definitely an urban person and would prefer a bigger city. I also would prefer a large foreign community. I wanted something in the city of Seoul itself, but I couldn�t find anything. So I thought perhaps a good location would be a suburb of Seoul in the Gyeonggi-do province. However, I wanted to know more about Daegu because it�s still one of Korea�s biggest cities. |

A year in Daegu qualifies my response. It's just not as nice a place to live compared to Busan. |

lol..grow a pair and make a decision. Daegu is alright, been here 3 years, it's like anywhere else i've ever lived--some people i like, some people i don't, the vast majority i could care les either way..helpful? |

and if I speak to that one person who iived in Seoul and thinks Seoul is dire, they'd be right?
Again, that comment speaks more about the person than the city. |

Its urban. The one thing you have to know weather wise is that its hotter than most places in the summer and colder in winter because its located in a valley surrounded by hills and mountains. You can search using Daegu as a keyword on here and find loads of info as well.
They have a Costco. Important for western food. This may or may not be an issue for you but there's a large American military base there. Army and Air Force. The pro of that being if you befriend one of them, you can buy plenty of American stuff on the PX on base and just outside the base they sell western clothes and things as its hard to find sizes for some of us. This also includes pro jerseys for football, etc. Con being that the military has a bad rep at times, not saying its deserved but...
Plenty of clubs and bars downtown that fit different tastes, hip hop, etc.
By KTX train Busan is fairly closeby, it has no beach though. Tons of foreigners. Its a fairly large, bustling downtown area. |

| One nice thing about Daegu is it actually has a downtown, it's the main hub of nightlife for the city. As for the rest...the city is pretty average to be honest. If you want Seoul, shoot for one of the smaller cities nearby. Don't settle and be miserable for a year. |
