Hi, I just recently got my background check back and I read on this site that you should make sure to have a FBI seal on it. I was just wondering how it looks. I have a tiny seal in black and white in the upper left corner of my background check. Is that normally how it looks?

No-
The seal that they're talking about is not with ink--it's made from a "press", and should be on the lower left hand corner of the form; a larger non ink replica of the little one on the upper left hand corner.

There have been cases where people haven't gotten it since you have to request it in advance.

If that is the case with you, there are other threads on this site that can tell you what to do--sorry I don't know the titles off hand; Good Luck!

As far as I know, you have to specifically request the FBI records division authenticate the criminal background check. The first time I did this earlier in the year I received back copies with a stamp containing the records division head's name, as well as a raised seal impression on the lower portion of the CBC.

I just requested another CBC last week and realized I, too, had forgotten to ask for the authentication this time, so I scrambled and found what I hope is good information to resolve this on the FBI FAQ page:

http://www.fbi.gov/about-us/cjis/background-checks/faqs

Under the heading of changing addresses, they give instructions that contain a fax number and an email address, so if the CBC is still in process, then sending them a letter with name, address, date of birth, maybe SSN, and the reasons you're requesting the form to be authenticated (apostille from State Department for employment in Republic of Korea), could resolve the oversight.

8. How do I notify the FBI if my address has changed since I submitted my request for my FBI Identification Record or if I want to verify my correct address was submitted?

Please complete the Address Change Request Form and mail the signed form to the following address:

FBI CJIS Division Record Request
1000 Custer Hollow Road
Clarksburg, WV 26306

The form can also be faxed to (304) 625-9792, or scanned and sent via e-mail to [email protected].

Note: Changes will not be made unless a signature is present on the form.

I'm not saying this information will resolve your current situation if the authentication isn't present, but it could save you the hassle if you have to resubmit your CBC request. I just faxed and emailed them my letter with the update request, which I really hope they are able to match up with my fingerprint card and other forms without too much trouble. Given the current state of getting a CBC completed, any delay or glitch is too much.

Best of luck on getting your situation fixed.

Did you request the seal in writing on a separate piece of paper? If not, you may not have the seal.

Some states will apostile it without the FBI seal. Call them and ask, if they do it will be much quicker then sending it to DC. I heard that some states will only apostile the FBI CRC if it does NOT have the seal on it.

Some states will apostille the FBI check. The FBI letter that you get stating that you should send the FBI check to the department of state is somewhat of a trap because it just takes forever and you don't have to send it to D.C. So many people have done the FBI check in their states for the last few years now and Korean immigration doesn't even reject it. If korean immigration see any state apostille, they'll accept it. Its their rule. So if the state allow it do it in the state or any state that allow it. Its just so much faster.
