My mum is coming through Seoul for her second visit--- last time she was bummed out we never did a royal banquet. I think it's kind of kitchy and maybe a little touristy, but this time around she's keen to go.
In researching, I've come across a couple of options-- one of which is korea house at Chungmuro station; I've found less than favorable reviews online, but if anyone has any further insights it'd be greatly appreciated. |

I went once with a small group. We were seated in a private room of a traditional house on a hill behind the main buildings. The room was beautifully decorated and extremely spacious. We sat on the floor but we had a kind of seat with backrests which made it ok (I hate sitting on the floor with a passion). The service was excellent and made us feel very special. The food, however, was not that amazing, although I think that's just because I don't generally like "royal" Korean food anyway. We got a lot of small courses which were interesting and not spicy, which is important for a lot of visitors.
I didn't organize the dinner, so I don't know how much it cost but it was a very memorable experience. |
