I think shipping them over to your school is not a bad option. But if you want to look around here first, go to Yongsan's Sun-in building and look there. It's a maze of a place, but there are some semi-decent deals to be found. Still not as good as back home, but you don't have the hassle of sending it.
Also, if you purchase a new computer from HP or Sony, and it has Windows 7, you can set the language to English from first install. All authorized shops know how to do this if you ask. |

Well what are you going to use the notebook for? If you need one cheap, why not check craigslist and buy used. If you want something new, you can get a decent i3 notebook from danawa (dot) com. I've seen some for 500k won. There's whatever specs you're looking for located at yongsan.
With yongsan, it's better go there in person, you might be able to find something bit cheaper. Seen decent ones there. |

i want to use the laptop as a desktop replacement.
how much does korea usually mark up laptops?
all the 4gb ram/320-500gb harddrive i saw at e-mart were in the 1 million range.
but then going on bestbuy.com (US version) those laptops were in the 500-700 range. |

You'll pay customs out the wazoo if you have it shipped from abroad.
Buy here and you'll overpay for a Korean Windows machine.
I'd take a trip back home if possible. You just mentioned it as a replacement, meaning it's not an urgent need. I'd wait on it. |

I'm in the same boat. My current laptop is showing signs of dying and I'd like to replace it before it actually croaks.
Was all set to order off Dell Korea, but it seems like they will only give you Windows in English if it is Ultimate, which is about 100k more, and otherwise useless to me.
I've been to Yongsan a few times during my hunt, and I'm probably going to have to go back.
Also, I'm not an expert, but prices here seem pretty fair. RAM and HD size are not a good way to gauge prices, as those are pretty much the cheapest components. Check the processors and graphics cards of the Best Buy ones vs. the ones here. Whenever I've looked for online reviews of a particular laptop, the prices suggested on the review sites seem pretty much in line with prices here. |
