An "unseasonable" heat wave? Hogwash. The weather is very typical for late summer here. The autumn equinox doesn't begin until next week. And it is still summer, scientifically speaking. Just because Koreans mark September 1st as the beginning of Fall doesn't make it so. This weather for early to mid-September is NOT rare at all. The usual daily highs of 27 C and lows of 21 C are only three degrees off of this so-called "unseasonable" heat wave. It must have been a slow newsday with an uncritical editorial eye for the Post to post this story. I guess weather news sells, is something Americans can relate to given their recent turbulent weather patterns.

It's normal for the first couple weeks of September. But, let's hope and pray that this summer is FINALLY over. Enough is enough!

If people would stop using so much godam energy,
this never would have been a story.

Not a heat wave. I hope the weather drags on through
November.

That would be great (not)! 5 months of Summer followed by 6 months of Winter, with 2 weeks each of Autumn and Spring in between.

Agree that the weather is still normal for the time, a more relevant article would be "What happened to the 2 pleasant seasons in Korea???!!!".

Answer me this.

It's easy to claim a fall heatwave now considering how cold our summer was.

Wasn't the power outage yesterday put down to everyone turning on their aircon when they weren't expected to?

I personally think the last few days have been hotter than a week or so ago....but not by much.

This whole year's been hot and rainy, rainy, or hot and muggy. This years weather has mostly sucked much more than usual. As an outdoor biker, I have a very good memory when it comes to weather. 2007, 2008, and 2009 were very different from this year. They seemed to follow more of a normal pattern that I had read of in descriptions of Korean weather. I noticed a change last year (2010). More rainy and cool in April and hot muggy and rainy through the summer, more than usual. But May and June, along with Autumn seemed normal enough. But this year From Mid March straight through (except for a couple of weeks towards the end of May) has been absolute Shite! Traditionally August is hot, humid, and sunny. After mid August, towards late August, and through the first couple of weeks of September, it's almost as hot but the humidity dies down considerably and it's sunny. Mid September to Mid October, it's sunny and warm (mid to low 20's daytime high). Getting into mid October through early November, it's sunny and in the mid to upper teens in the afternoon. After this, the daytime highs gradually dropoff. But November and early Decmber can still go up to 10 degrees or so and overnight lows will sometimes go slightly below freezing.

But this year who knows? As an outdoor cyclist who is really pissed at this year's weather, I want to have faith that normal non rainy weather will return in a week or so and that I can still salvage the last week of September and the month of October. But, we'll see on that one. I'm almost expecting it to rain too just to piss me off! I could always hope to rewarded with a warmer than usual fall for putting up with such BS weather the last six months, but that remains to be seen.

Anyways, does anyone know if there's such a thing as a Korean Farmers almanac? I'd like to get a heads up for next year. I'd like to find out if the weather here goes in cycles. Maybe several good years of weather followed by several bad years of weather.

according to the news yesterday and what my gf saw and read, the outage yesterday was to check on some energy output sources and based on findings, they felt that energy this year was used more than last year, so they decided to cut power to certain cities for 30 minutes to 1 hour or more depending on the area. My school and the surrounding area lost power for 1 hour then at 6 pm i lost power for 1 hour. My house is only a 10 minute walk from school! lol

anyways there were some bad repercussions to them doing that yesterday. Many people reported that they had issues with internet, people were actually trapped in elevators for an hour or more!, and other things. i thought it was pretty funny though lol

I will be begging for this weather Dec1-Mar1.

We have the luxury of cheap and plentiful energy. Maybe some people will realize that running water endlessly and Air Con all the time is just that - luxury. This waste is absolutely not necessary.

I do agree with you that the 2 pleasant seasons in Korea have disappeared.

Also, Chuseok last year was exactly like this year in terms of weather.
1 more hour, time to get some SUN!!!

If the entire world lived and used electricity like Korea does, then we'd be seeing way more power cuts. Eventually, the Earth's resources will not be able to sustain a society like Korea who consumes an enourmous amount of resources. I give it about 50 years before big changes will be forced upon everyone here, and abroad.
