|
|
Just wondering if any hikers and photographers out there knew of any websites predicting this years dates for when the leaves will change color in the famous spots such as Soraksan, Jirisan and Juwangsan? Useful websites that have been helpful in the past like korea.net and others still have their 2010 predictions up. Its been a bit of crazy summer with the higher than usual rainfall (early to mid summer) and later prolonged hot weather so I think predictions might differ from years past. Thanks a lot

I predict they will be at their best the first week of November. |

Thats actually the time I planned on heading south to photograph some color. Around November 4-6th, which also coincides with last years predictions of color peaking around November 5th, but I just wanted to make sure because of the slightly unusual summer weather this year. Its a long drive and I want to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks for your insight though. |

Hey Matt!
The good thing with the mountains is that the fall comes at different time depending on the elevation. At the top of Seoraksan it can be snowing in late October. During the last week of October and the first week of November you will surely find the desired colors somewhere between 100 and 1,700 m
I'm not sure if the unusual amount of rain will affect it. Or the lack of sunshine for a good 6-7 weeks in the middle of the summer... The temperature these days is not so unusual to make significant delays. I remember last year around September 10th there was a period hotter than this. The forecast shows a significant drop from Sunday and Monday in both the max. and min. temperatures and things will be back to normal.
Edit*: now as I'm browsing on kma I found this: http://web.kma.go.kr/notify/focus/list.jsp?bid=focus&mode=view&num=601&page=1&field=&text=
It's in Korean and I can't seem to find how to make the map larger but this is what you are looking for I guess.
Edit #2* If you save the small maps onto your computer and open it, you will actually see something. |

Excellent work! This is the best link I have seen for 2011 nicely done. I found that if you visit the link then just press ctrl + (on microsoft systems) it brings the maps up nicely into view without even saving the original small maps.
The map on the left indicates the beginning colors and the map on the right is about peak colors. Again this is exactly why I posted on this forum so thank you very much for finding this! |
