Should I buy a laptop while I am here in the UK or should I get one when I come to Korea?

buy it at in the UK!!!!!! DO NOT buy it in korea. i'm actually looking for a laptop and desperately in search for someone i know who is coming to korea to pick me up a laptop. korea overcharges on their electronics.

alright, i'll admit, i don't know much about UK prices but was talking to a english friend of mine about shipping one over for me and he showed me a few dells that were very well priced compared to laptops in korea.

what i DO know for sure is that US prices are considerably cheaper.

I'm just off the boat, and while I haven't done detailed research, my impression looking at the prices in emart were that it's cheaper than equivalents in UK stores.

Where the disagreement may be is that in the UK there are so many options and online retailers that if you do your homework you can find a really good deal.

So the question may be were you going to do all that research anyway or just buy one from a store. In which case Korea may be slightly better.

You might want to think about the warranties...does it have a worldwide one etc.

I've been here 6 years and always get new laptops when I'm back in the UK. Last time I was in the market the UK prices were better (mid-market Vaios are very reasonable in the UK now, and Acers with similar specs are perfectly decent for under �400), and imho the downside of having to use a power adaptor far outweighs the bother of buying here, potential Windows / system language issues and having a Korean keyboard. If you're using it at home a lot you will probably want an external keyboard, which you can pick well cheap here with Korean keys (a few symbol keys are different / reversed but you'll get the hang), and you can get sticker packs if you want hangeul on the main keyboard.

Anyway, whatever you do, don't get a Dell. Just don't.

We bought a laptop here for 900,000 Krw. It's Korean brand, Averatec but very well built and with really good specifications. 2 years after purchase it's still ligthning fast, had no issues whatsoever and the specs. are still comparable to today's models.

Or better yet, buy a desktop with a large screen so you can enjoy the downloaded movies and Tv shows much better than on a laptop screen and you can also use it as a regular TV. Just a few weeks ago we bought a Samsung desktop which is perfectly enough for the usual needs except for running the latest games. Thus a 32 inch LG LCD and wireless keyboard+mouse all for 1.1 mil.
That is if you are planning on staying for more than a year. Although you can always sell your things when you leave. And a slim case desktop can be easily carried in your suitcase.
