Now that I got your attention, let me ask you a question.
How do you feel about your fellow poster, who is most likely an English teacher, writing utterly witless comment like This sounds retarded. Not that I'm surprised, it's Korea after all.
Would you like it if Korean students upon seeing an English teacher making a mistake and then broadly claim What a retard. No surprise there, he is an English teacher!!"
Do you think that above comment and similar will be endearing to anyone?

Personally, I dont really give a crap what you guys write about but I do care when your witless comments adversely affect the already bad image of English teacher in Korea.

Be more responsible guys. Think about how your comments in Daves Forum, a forum visited by many lurking Koreans, will be viewed and how it will affect the image of your fellow colleagues.

Thanks for lesson Mr. Rogers. Seriously though, I've seen way more posts along the lines of "this is so retarded, but no surprise there, it's Dave's" than the sample post you mentioned.

Increase the standards for teachers coming here and problems like this will diminish. Thing is they don't want to because that means paying higher salaries.

You get what you pay for.

It's the internet. People speak blithely all the time. In all countries and in all languages.

Korean netizens anyone? If there's a more nasty and destructive bunch of internet users than those guys then please point them out to me.

They don't NEED to import in all these "native" English speakers!

But I suppose they're slowlyyyy realizing that..

Right beside the the quote button on the top right corner of every post is a red exclamation mark !

If you think the remark is offensive, be responsible enough to click that button and report it to the moderators...the mods will likely agree and delete the post...often the entire thread.

No need to start a thread just as demeaning and offensive as the point you are trying to make.

I do agree the post in question is offensive.

Koreans say far worse things on the internet including comments that led to a famous star committing suicide 2 years ago. Some netizens savagely attack foreigners.

As far as this being Korea, it's not unusual. A colleague complained that she was told certain things by her boss, and they were not true in the end. I said this is Korea. You should expect that. You often cannot rely on what bosses, immigration, and other people say to be true. Even Koreans say that. Whereas in North America, we are more likely to think a person has credibility when he says something. I am sorry, but that's how we feel, dude.

Many of us who complain about things also like Korea. Koreans complain about Korea all the time. Why can't we, too? Is it because we're Waegook Saram? Even the best of people deal with things that drive them crazy about how they are having a hard time trusting what bosses even in public institutions say. So, I have also said, well it's Korea. I would probably say the same if I were in India. Hey, Bulgarians say that about Bulgaria. It's life, deal with it. And Arabs in Jordan when someone is expecting better service might say, "What do you think this is America, quit dreaming".

I am not agreeing with very offensive statements. However, people will vent. Koreans do the same thing all the time.

I really doubt Korean forums are better since political correctness is not even promoted here. It's probably worse. I can't read Korean that well, so I can't say. They're not angels and neither are we. This idea that foreigners have to behave better than Koreans is ridiculous. Anyway, legal, Western foreign teachers have a lower crime rate than Koreans, but the way Korean media spotlights us, it makes it seem as if we have a higher crime rate. And all kinds of foreigners make similar statements about Korea whether they're from Thailand or England. It happens.
As long as the comments are not racist, people should feel free to complain and not be stifled. Many people criticize the United States and are from the United States.

To the OP (Original Poster), just don't get too offended about this stuff....People are just people.

Wow!!
Rolling Eyes

'That's retarded.'
'That's gay.'

Really? You think this is bad? Could've been expressed
more eloquently, but this is the internet. This is also
what make Englishee an ever-evolving and innovative language.

No sweat, homey.

"There are no retarded people in Korea." I heard that from an old KO-teacher.
