Hi everyone,

I'm looking to stay in shape here in Seoul. Boxing gyms, fitness centers, muay thai....any suggestions?

There's only one muay thai gym in the whole city. Body and Seoul in Itaewon, but it's crap.

Boxing gyms are more common, but they don't usually speak English and the trainers and guys that go there don't take kindly to foreigners.

Health clubs are everywhere. You just have to walk around your town and you'll find one or two easily. But gyms here are very cardio centered. So expect it to be 75% treadmills, elipticals, and mountain climbers. With maybe a few free weights in the corner. Also expect to drop about $100 a month for membership. Cool part is, some have in house massage, saunas, steam rooms, and ice houses.

There are a few Western style gyms dotted here and there, but they are harder to find and much more expensive.

I've found it's easier and better to just get a bench and some free weight, maybe some bands, and just workout at home. You can load up on supplements, and do some pretty good cardio and calestenicts outside.

That's just the situation here. The Korea idea of fitness is completely different from ours.

You should try Kyeoktugi if you get a chance. I think it has all the good bits of muay thai in it. My instructor spoke a tiny bit of English and made a good effort to understand my patchy Korean Cool

Gyms in Korea, they even lend you clothes to work out. That's different.

That is definatly not true, there is one in Dunchondong/Gangdong for sure, a couple in Gangnam aswell.

Get a co-teacher or Korean friend to do a naver search.

there are plenty of muay thai gyms in alot of the bigger cities and seoul is no different, although they might not say their style is muay thai, it might just be kickboxing or something similar. all you have to do is look for 무이타이 or 킥복싱 lol i just did a naver search and plenty of gyms pop up
