Can I find the stuff at E-mart or Homeplus? I haven't been there yet. I may look soon once I look to stock up on stuff for my kitchen. |

E-Mart and Homeplus? No, but they have been spotted at Kim's Club, in Newcore Outlets, and in many stores in the muslim shops in Itaewon. The lowest prices are at Kim's Club.

Foreign food market in Itaewon has canned chick peas / garbanzos (plus various other canned beans / pulses) for a very reasonable W2000, and I've seen the same brand in Home Plus.
They also stock a brand of tahini, and the Salaam Bakery just across and down the street has several different kinds. |

How to make tahini in less then 15 minutes -
1. Roast sesame seeds for 5 minutes in a frying pan. We buy the ones in the jar, the ones that say 'roasted sesame seeds'. The ones that are ready to shake on food.
2. Put them in a blender with olive oil.
THE END.

I don't live near Seoul, so I need to find a chain that sells it. If Home Plus carries it, that will work. I wish the foreign food market could mail the stuff:) |

Prices are pretty high, but if you're desperate for something...

Order them online from sites like nicemarket.com. There are other sites too, I just can't remember them right now. If you are closer to Daejeon, the World Food Mart near the train station also carries dried beans. |

It's that easy.. I make great hummus every week. you can just chuck into the mix a bunch of sesame seeds and a couple of drops of sesame oil too. The only long bit is leaving the dried chickpeas in water overnight then gentle boiling for 1.5 hours...(I just do a big load once a month and freeze..)
heres my recipe ..
big cup chick peas (pre-cooked + defrosted in microwave)
2 cloves garlic
big long squeeze of lazy lemon juice (loads!)
splashes of tabasco
tablespoon sesame seeds
3/4 sundried tomatoes (homemade)
few drops sesame oil (v strong taste - careful)
tablespoon e/v olive oil
water
some black olives
pepper and salt
Handblend it all together until all well mixed..
whole process takes under 10 minutes each week..
used to never like homemade stuff compared to supermarket hummus but the above recipe is a good un. |

Nicemarket.com doesn't work. I will look in Home Plus. If not, I'll just grab a bunch of cans when I go over to Seoul. I'll check out E-Mart and Home Plus on Wednesday.
The above recipe looks good, but I prefer traditional hummus. I have a hummus cook book, and will experiment. You can buy a cheap hummus book that has all kinds of varieties of hummus. I bought the ultimate hummus book. I like lots of garlic in mine with lemon. I am going to ask my father how he makes his. His hummus is out of this world. I'll have to get a food processor. I've never made tahini before. |

I bought some last week at the organic section of Emart. They were labeled "Ceci" beans, however, a word I've only ever heard my dad use. |
