|
|
I'd like to give facebook more of a serious try, but there is one fatal flaw that really kills it for me. Maybe someone can help me out.
I have one family member, a niece, who updates about 10 times a day. So anytime I log into my page, I see 9 posts from her, and maybe one from another friend or family member.
I had this problem before, and I deleted (or "blocked") the offending person. That was my nephew's wife; I felt bad to block her, but I could think of no other way. Now it is my Niece, and I really don't want to fully block her.
Is there a way to see only the last 2 or 3 updates from one person, thus allowing other updates from other people to remain on my facebook. That would be ideal, an option like "only show last two updates from this person".
Is there any way to have other friends updates remain on my facebook homescreen longer without fully blocking the overuser?
Thanks, |

You do know that the person you 'hide' or, 'unsubscribe from news feed' as it's now called, has no idea that you've done that.
You aren't offending anyone. They don't know you aren't reading their updates......I've hidden 50 or more 'friends'. |

like eamo suggested, you don't have to "de-friend" a person permanently to not see their dribble. just unsubscribe from them which is a new feature, or you used to be able to just block everything that they did without them knowing.
i have around 50% of all my contacts blocked because of the asinine crap they post. |

I see, thanks,
Still...
It would be nice to not ENTIRELY unsubscribe from their dribble. My Niece is, after all, pretty important. If I could just limit to only having their last two or three updates show up, then I could still see where she was, while giving other friends and family a chance to get through also.
This problem is really the thing that kills Facebook for me, too bad there is no way around it without entirely unsubscribing from some loved-one. |

They've just introduced "close friends" and "acquaintances"... I don't know how it works, but apparently if you set someone as "acquaintance" (they just show as friend to everyone), you only get the IMPORTANT stuff.. I dunno what that is
I just hide most of the people. You should hide your niece. If she wants to say something to you, she'll post on your wall. You could click on her page once in a while to check in. |

Some of the best friends I have are 'hidden' on my facebook newsfeed. They're all good folks in real life but seriously; why do I need to know what you had for breakfast? Your niece will be fine if you miss out on a few trivial details from her day, but if you feel bad then just check out her profile from time to time to see how she's getting on. |

I've got about a third of my contacts blocked. If I'm interesting in what they're doing I'll just check their profile now and again |

You can always look at her profile while hidden from newsfeed if you want to see any updates you care about. |

Please hover over my name here, wait for the box to load and then hover over "Subscribe" until you see all of the choices. Then uncheck "Comments and Likes". I would rather my comments on friends' posts not be posted on everyone else's feed. Thanks. |
Follow the directions and it seems like you can control what kind of content you see from your niece. |
