Just got offered a new contract and had a couple of questions.

1) I know some hagwons will take a 3.3% income tax, which is illegal, but in my contract it states that I will lose about 3.3% of my monthly salary for "income tax and inhabitant's tax". Is that legit or is it just a way of framing so that my 3.3% seems reasonable. What exactly is inhabitant's tax?

2) Can someone explain this sentence to me in regards to my vacation days?
"If Korean National holidays and those days which close intentionally are included within and as part of vacation time, they will be counted as vacation days."

3) My contract states 35 working hours. I know it is usually 30 hours, so is it okay to have more than 30? Do working hours vary from school to school or does Korean law limit me to 30?

Thanks in advance.

Vague. It seems like they are saying that if there are days that need to be closed, then they will be treated as vacation time. If I am correct, then the only worry is the actual number of these days. You might get 20 at a public school, so I wouldn't want more than 5 of these. Shoot for 2 or 3.

It varies from school to school, but the average I use is 25 classes. If you have a higher salary (2.3 or more) then maybe you will need to put in more office hours. 10 hours is not that bad. Worry more about the schedule if it is split shift or blocks. If you are not the only teacher, be prepared for a split shift schedule. I think this is why they want 35, so when a student walks in out of the blue and wants a lesson, they can grab you and then reschedule so it doesn't look like you worked overtime. Some people don't mind this kind of job, but I stay away from it. Post the contract in the contract thread, and I will look at it.

#1 is illegal.
#2 is illegal
and if you agree to #3 then you get what you deserve (only a fool would agree to it).
