bioberd, I hadn't bothered with the apostille because I was being very picky about jobs. Was offered an excellent International School job so I finally sent for the apostille which I received yesterday.
Sent to D.C. July 3, received July 19 - not bad really.
Feloria, you're right. I believe everything happens for a reason. Honestly though, this was a fantastic position for me so I am a bit disappointed.
On one hand I fully understand why the CBC shouldn't be more than 6 months old. On the other hand, I got it to be prepared for a job offer but the position wasn't open until about a month ago so the age of the CBC is all that kept me from this job. No time now to send for another CBC, I think.
Any credentialed teachers with early childhood experience, PM me, I know of a great job opening! |

I am happy I got my CBC apostille today!!! Thisforum really helped me out and I hope everyone else waiting for theirs receives theirs too. Good luck!!! |
I will give my apostille thing 2 weeks and 3 days after they receive it, then I will look for plan B- some job in the U.S. I am hoping I will have my CBC back in 2 weeks. I sent it on the 20th of July priority mail. We'll see what happens. I need to be in Korea say by the 20th of August. I am not sure I have enough time. |

I should not have sent my background check to the Department of State and done things by the book and tried to send it to Austin. Or, I should have flown to Washington D.C. for a day. Yeah, I should have flown in and done it. If it takes 3 weeks, I am in trouble. People depend on these things for their jobs. I will e-mail them on Friday. They will have received it by now. |

I just received my apostille on criminal background check. I sent it July 8, they received it July 13, they mailed it July 18, and it arrived on July 22. Not too shabby.
Notes: I called Monday to check on it, and they took my contact info to have someone call back with an update. She called me this afternoon...THEY ARE SO BACKED UP, THEY HAVE BROUGHT IN FOLKS FROM OTHER DEPARTMENTS.! It might make everything run FASTER if everyone would stop calling/emailing/harrassing them (maybe).
Also, just as and aside, I did NOT include a return envelope at all.
Hope this is helpful and hopeful to anyone waiting.
See you on the ROK! |

The people were calling are an answering service. At least, the people I was connected to. I keep getting this lady who doesn't seem to work directly for them. She talked about being backed up for weeks. Well, many people's jobs are riding on this one and that's also money that gets sent back to the US, so it's in the interest of the government to hurry it up. I am planning on sending a friend from the D.C. area with a note to ask on my behalf if I can go and pick it up in person. |

I agree with you on that!
The woman who called me today told me that she had been brought in from another department. Wow, maybe they are so swamped that they have also hired temps! Glad someone has a job |

ugh i just expressed my concern in another thread because it's been 12 weeks since i submitted my cbc request and still nothing. i'm so stressed out about it.
i'm hoping it's just because i live in hawaii, and it takes forever for any kind of mail from the continent to get here. guess i'll try calling that number and emailing my congresswoman... |

I am on the 12th week myself! I thought I was the only one. Have they processed your check? And did you send your documents via USPS or with a return envelope? I am going crazy and broke waiting for these papers!!! |

i found out why mine hasn't been completed, but i doubt the reason i don't have mine is the same reason you haven't received yours. i emailed [email protected], and they answered my questions within a couple of days. |

Honestly, do it earlier if you can. I sent my CBC during the so-called "busy" season and it has been 13 weeks and I still have nothing! If anything people have recommended using a courier service, which costs much more than the $8.00, but saves you from stressing out about how long the inept Office of Authentications takes. |

I think I'll do the apostille for my CBC through the government in January now. AS for my degree, I don't get that until May, so I guess I'll have to use apostille pros for that if it's acceptable. |

I finally got my CBC back. The whole process takes about 4 and half months. |

Your degree copy apostille can (must) be done at the state level (i.e. not the office in DC). There's no reason to pay for a high-priced courier unless you can't visit your state capital and don't know anyone who can take it for you, and a courier service that gets their apostilles from DC could not do it. (Since apostille pros gets their apostilles from California instead of the federal government, I suppose you could use them for your degree if you were either absolutely desperate or rich. )
If you haven't yet, search for threads on the process of getting your degree copied, notarized and apostilled (varies by state). I'd also suggest just giving your state's office a call or checking their website since sometimes info posted on message boards is out-of-date or contradictory. You can also get it done in neighboring states if they have an easier process or a more conveniently located capital. The key is that the notary and the apostille must both be from the same state. |
