Why respect him more? It's not like he wants to go in the army!! He's doing it because he has to.
I'm pretty sure he's upset at losing 2 years of income and maybe losing lots of public profile......as well as spending two years as a nobody.
I'd be pretty sure he's doing this reluctantly, but he'll do it because he would be reviled by the Korean media and most Korean people if he doesn't. |

Celebrities are not granted exemptions, but if they are big stars like Park Chan Ho they might be granted a shorter stay in the military.
I respect Rain more because he's willing to do his duty and serve his country. He is not going about this like Yoo Sung Jun did several years ago.
Rain is being a man about it. That's what I respect. |

so, thats why he suddenly decided to do a tour in august and spent even though he doesnt have any new music.
he'll make tons more bank. and his pt should be easier.  |

Athletes can get exemptions if their teams perform well. Choo Shin-soo won't have to serve due to winning a gold in some event or another. |

As mentioned before, athletes can get exemptions if they do something great. Outside of Shin Soo-Choo, apparently several soccer players got exempted for their role in the World Cup. |

From my knowledge ways to not have to serve in the military are:
1) Be the only son with no father.
2) Win a medal in any major sporting event. The only exception were the 2002 World Cup team who went to the Semis. They were let off because the Korean football team has never done that well.
3) Have more than 8 teeth naturally missing or maybe just the back teeth (MC Mong did this) because they can not eat the food. He was arrested because he had the teeth removed so he wouldn't have to serve.
4) Disability
and probably a few more
Rich people do have to serve but they usually go to the "Office Military" which is completely opposite of regular soldiers. No PT, no living in the barracks, eat better food, etc. Many celebrities do this as well (HaHa did this, the dancer guy that was on Infinite Challenge also is currently doing this.) |

It the family has any public, or political aspirations, they have better do normal service, or it will hurt them down the road. No one knows this better than Lee Hoi-chang (his two sons lost weight to avoid service) and a few celebrities like MC Mong whose careers are basically over. |
