|
|
So my girlfriend did in home toy parties for about a year and half. We are thinking she should not put that on her application, but it does leave a large blank space on her work history. I was thinking we just make up another similar job (like working retail sales). Its not the most honest thing, but she was working during that time. I wouldn't want something like selling sex toys , or having an empty work history to hurt her chances |

She has worked with kids, and done various volunteer work. It's not the only thing on her resume. |

Home Sales Representative or something like that.
She organised parties, provided catering, dealt with supplier, dealt with her own accounts etc....right? Just treat it like she was selling tupperwear. You don't need to mention what she was selling on her cv and if they ask she can make something up with cosmetics because there are plenty of companies that do home parties to sell their tat. She could easily get some good transferable skills from that job so its worth putting down, just pretend that she wasn't selling vibrators.
What is the name of the company...is it Anne Summers? I'm guessing in Korea that name wouldn't mean anything to them so they wouldn't think about of it. |

Good advice. The name of her company was passion parties. Obviously not a great name. She did work for another company called brown bag parties. I think that one sounds ok. |

Brown Bag Parties sounds harmless. I doubt they are going to ask her for a reference from that company anyway. |

Not sure "passion" would raise eyebrows. After all... the advanced English class at my school is called the "passion class" |

Keep it simple. No need to list any non-teaching (or working with kids)related jobs.
If Korean bosses even bother to look at your work history, many (most?) would likely view too many jobs as a sign of being unstable.
Most (hakwan) jobs here advertize 'No experience necessary'.
Tell your friend that a good (professional) picture will be more important for most (hakwan) jobs here. |

I've read that jobs with over a year can be ok. She has a pretty face, and a photographer friend to make sure the picture looks good. Thanks for the advice. She is most likely applying for public schools. |
