Hah!

To prevent hair loss, shave it all off and stop worrying about it.

It's just a natural mixture to melt away dead skin cells and hair product build up.

Clarifying shampoos do the same thing, they're just expensive.

Even if you shampoo twice a day (as I do) you can't get all the product build up out, especially if you use product daily.

My hair is thin, soft, and creeping back a little more each year. Wax is too heavy and just leaves my hair flat and oily looking. Moose just gets soaked up and weighs the hair down. Old fashioned spray is the only thing I can do to get some kind of body and style. But the build up from spray every day is horrific. However, this last summer I shaved it to the skin. It instantly aged me 15 years or so, but my hair grew back clean and fresh. I could see doing that ever 2 or 3 years or so.

I'm starting to wonder if "haircare" products dont actually cause a lot of people's hair problems. This from wikipedia:

Shampoo has only been used with fervor since the 1970s. Before then, either regular soap was used a few times a month or, just after the early 20th century, shampoo was used only a few times a year. It was in the 1970s that shampoo use became prevalent. Ads featuring Farrah Fawcett and Christie Brinkley asserted that it was unhealthy not to shampoo several times a week.

Read the ingredients on your shampoo bottle: its a chemical soup. Do we really need to be subjecting our scalps to that every day? Then you buy additional hair products to repair that damage. Marketing genius.

I'm thinking of weaning myself off shampoo altogether. I bet using mild liquid soap just once in a while would promote healthier hair.

There are good shampoos out there which are mostly made up of natural ingredients. I use one which has ginger in it, and I've seen greater volume as a result. nd I never use styling product, maybe just a bit of a blow dry and brush.
