Hey guys, recently when trying to log into a couple different sites I use I've received the message "You have used up the limit of failed login attempts, please wait X number of minutes and try again."
The only thing I can assume is that someones trying to get into my various accounts. I changed all my passwords so that they're much more complex, but what else can I really do? I use an anti-virus on both of my computers, and they come up clean, I also regularly run the microsoft malicious software removal thing.
I'm relatively sure I don't have a problem with a keylogger, because if that was it they wouldn't need to be trying to figure out my passwords and failing. What else can I do in a situation like this? |

Keyloggers don't fail. Brute force hacks do but it's strange to get on multiple sites. Also depends on the kind of site it is.
Could it be someone you know, relative, gf/bf trying to have a look at something? |

Basically this. Keyloggers actually get the full string of your password and don't need guesses to get access. Brute force (aka guessing) isn't worth it on any site with decent security (aka the login failures you're getting). Seems more likely that a friend/relative/girlfriend is trying to access your accounts and didn't guess the password. I wonder if your bank could provide the ip of the failed login attempts. |

I never actually had any problems with my online banking, strangely the only 3 places I saw this were a video game forum I sometimes post on, and 2 different email addresses I use. (At different sites)
Yeah I figured I didn't have a keylogger. There wouldn't be failures and I'd never know if that was the case. Strange, but I guess I don't really have anything to worry about, cuz ain't noone guessing any of my passwords, thats for sure. |
