A little bird told me this was okay as long as my documents are all in order and hand them in as soon as I get there but part of me is thinking this is a bad idea. Legal or illegal?

Yeah, to work. The little birdy said if there's a problem with immigration the director would explain the situation...that all my documents are being processed.

And then you get the 2 million won fine and an exit order as well as forbidden (by immigration) to work for that employer.

You can join the rest of the others in the immigration detention center (6th floor of the Seoul immigration center) while they sort it out for you.

Do it the right way or risk the consequences.

Korean Immigration has no tolerance for those who violate immigration law. If you come to Korea and work without a visa, you are breaking the law, you will be fined a huge fine (and you can't leave until you pay it), and will have trouble ever getting a visa here again. Don't do it. Under any circumstances. If your employer is trying to talk you into it, then they are a shady law breaking person from the get-go, and probably don't follow other korean labor laws (such as pension, severance, etc.). Find somewhere else to work!

Been reading too much A Song of Ice and Fire. Oh Varys...

Thanks for the info everyone, I suspected as much. I was actually kind of shocked how fast they wanted me to come but I'd rather not see the inside of a Korean jail cell, well any jail cell for that matter. Thanks again! Surprised
