link doesn't work...is it for real?

And even so...is this the official government stance or the stance of the majority of Koreans?

Why should the country be ashamed of a few nationalistic idiots?

Should Britain/American be ashamed every time one of their anti-immigration politicians gets quoted in the news?

Should Canada be ashamed because it has a Marijuana Party?

Try and realize that just because a few Koreans think or do something that does not go for the vast majority.
It's this stupid notion that Koreans conform to some Borg-like uniformity that leads to SOME of them (and other foreign teachers) thinking that SOME foreign teachers just aren't all that swift.

Reminds me of back home when I saw the local beerbellies chanting slogans against any non-white person.

I mean I ain't the sharpest pencil in the box but man you talk about looking stupidity right in the face.

From the link:

Quote:
Japanese football fans have been outraged at the reception laid on for a Japanese team playing in Korea recently, with a banner goading them by celebrating the deaths of 20,000 Japanese in the recent earthquake and tsunami.
The banner appeared at a recent football match between Cerezo Osaka and a Korean team (which the Japanese team was to lose), held in Korea:

In broken Japanese, it reads we celebrate Japans great earthquake.
Once match organisers spotted the banner, they ordered it removed.
Whether this is the result of the famed animosity Koreans feel towards just about everyone else or the incredibly crude standards of behaviour the world has come to expect from football fans is not clear a recent away match a Japanese team played against a Belgian team saw supporters there chanting Fukushima, which prompted an official complaint from the Japanese side.

It's incredibly shameful. I'm not saying the whole country feels that way, but those of consequence who don't condemn this kind of behavior are just as much to blame. Standing silent while others give your country a terrible image is just as bad.

I still can't get the link to work so I'll go with what you said in your link.

The match was held in Korea yes? Therefore the match organizers would likely be Korean as well.

How is that "Standing silent while others give your country a terrible image"?

And I still don't see how a few idiots at a football match (many of which are notorious for hooligans) gives a country a terrible image. By your logic you should be suggesting Belgium has a terrible image as well.

Britain is well-known for its hooligans yet no one suggests that this is the defining image of Britain.

The link reports that stadium officials removed the banner.

(this thread outta be in the general chit-chat forum where it'd get more mileage - if it isn't already)

I love the comments:

It's not really about sportsmanship here.

Japan always makes comments about Korea like the ones we read above, and then expects Korea to like them.

It's laughable.

Only a Korean could spin it like that. lmfao

No. This is something Canada should be proud of.

Most people know exactly how the apologists on this site will respond, so it's no use in being surprised about any of it.

While I won't say it reflects badly on all Koreans, it certainly does reflect badly on Korean nationalism (which in my opinion is Korea's biggest flaw and does more to embarrass them internationally than anything else). Beyond that though I still generally like Korea, and this instance just shows that some peoples' stupidity knows no bounds...

Shame. You're missing out on some amazing ads for Hentai and Japanese high school girl porn.

the korean breed of nationalism is a unique one. while on the surface it seems to be simply be all about pride (like all forms of nationalism i suppose), deep down i think it's more about feelings of inferiority and embarrassment.

they also just seem to have a problem with holding grudges...

I came for the apologizing. I stayed for the hentai.

Or should it be the other way around...

It was only a m.tter of time. Given the irresponsible and stupid way that anti-Japanese sentiment has been so encouraged and inculcated into the youth here for so long.

Most Japanese like Korea and are rather perplexed to find that koreans don't feel the same way.

Its an English disease that has basically spread worldwide along with the sport.
