Fired From Job, A little advice please!

just got fired by my manger because it would be cheaper to have a Korean teacher in my place. The manager has advised me that the reason for firing is to make higher profits. He has also not given me 60 days notice. I have recorded our conversation and he has also admitted that what he is doing is "a little illegal".
I have contacted the labour board for some advice on what to do next but to be honest they have been next to useless, I'm just wondering does anyone have any advices for me exactly how I can dispute this.

its not a little illegal, its flat all out illegal. and the fact that you have it recorded has place a HIGH bargaining chip in your corner. where are you located? i know there are lawyers and people able to help in seoul who can speak english, but i cant remember for the life of me what their names are, but if you search this board im sure it is here. Sorry to hear about this at yet another demonic school/hagwon.

I'm in Daegu, and have contacted the laobour board in Daegu. They have told me to ring another number where nobody speaks english. To be honest all I really want at the moment is for someone to listen to my recording and advise where I go from here. I've many friends who have been greatly helped by the labour board in the past but the man who seems to keep answering at the moment has no real interest in trying to help me.

Well you can either fight it, leave or find something on http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/ . The last choice worked for me several years ago.

I don't see how this is illegal. He can run his business however he wants. He can cut costs if it will suit his business needs. Maybe we don't agree with him, but he sure has the right. Based on the contract he just needs to give notice.

If you show a recording, then you are showing evidence he gave you notice.

It's best I think to just move on. Use him to help transfer your visa to a new school.

Well he told me Tuesday and wants me gone next Friday, my contract does say he must give me 60 days notice so that is at least 1 law broken, he is also refusing to give me written notification why he is firing me at the moment.

Keep showing up to work until you get a notice in writing about your firing. If you just stop coming next Friday he will be able to tell the labor board that you quit.

So you want to force him to keep you working for him for 60 more days, knowing that he wants you out? How do you think this will help your chances on getting a transfer in 2 months from now? Wouldn't it make more sense to get a transfer now, and then work for school 2?

I could be proven wrong, but if you do manage to succeed with the labor board - and it can often take months to go through proceedings - you probably can only look to claim for a month's salary.

What is a month's salary worth to you in the long run? If I were you, I'd just bite my lip and ensure I get the best reference letter from the employer in the universe, as well as a letter of release and move on. If you manage to secure a new job quickly, you won't need to go through the visa hoops, either.

At least your employer hasn't fired you with some daft excuse such as the parents complaining - although that still doesn't help you too much, get him to help you for all it's worth.

The question is--How many months are left on your contract? If more then 6 then there is little you can do.

It has been stated on here many times about the 6 month probationary period.

I am in nearly the same boat. However, my boss is willing to have me work at half salary/part-time or 15 hours a week. He is trying to find me another hagwon he can share me with for the other 15 hours but so far nothing has happened. I think he should give you a LOR right away and if you can't find a job, he should pay for month salary + your airfare back to the US if you have to return to your country. Let him know this and I bet he will find someone who will hire you. Hagwons have their own network. Definitely go away though on good terms and reference letter you make up and he signs. Good luck.
