Didn't you have to leave your passport with Immi. while they process your ARC?
Or have they changed the process?

I guess the process changed. I only had to provide a photocopy.

Any clue what would happen? Essentially Im breaking my contract and wanting to return within a day of leaving korea on a tourist visa to work for a non teaching employer. Thanks in advance.

I am confused about your situation. If you applied for an ARC that would indicate you already have a job with a visa. In this case a visa would be multiple entry, allowing you to come and go.

That pertains to your first post.

Then, in your second post you talk about returning on a tourist visa. If you don't have your ARC yet, then you can't hand it in at the airport. How do you plan on canceling your current visa status?

You have to leave and hand in your ARC card to cancel your visa. I don't know what would happen if you never picked up your arc card from immigration. Anyone have experience?

My visa says single entry on it. The arc is still processing so how would they know that I have it. The ARC is what grants multiple entries on a Canadian Visa. Without it doesn't the Visa get cancelled?

You need to go to the immigration office and get a multiple entry visa (essentially, it's a stamp). I do not believe that you will require ARC for this.

I am trying to cancel my E2 by leaving Korea. I don't need a multiple entry visa. Can anyone confirm if leaving while it is processing will cancel the visa or not? Thanks!!

Well, let's think about this. Let's say someone doesn't want to quit. If they had a single entry visa as you say you have, and they left Korea (for Christmas for example) then they could simply pay to get another single entry visa. This is how I understood it used to be dealt with before multiple visas were issued.

From that, we can conclude that NO your visa status would not be canceled. The reason being, your employer would have to report you to immigration and then you would have a set number of days to return.

Your best bet I think would be to try to cancel your ARC processing, and then leave.

My Korean friend called immigration yesterday and they refused to cancel. They said the employer must do it.

Unfortunately my employer won't do this. This is a Hagwon from hell.

Ah, and if you leave now, you may also be blacklisted after your employer complains.

I am curious about how this would work. If you give your employer a two-months notice, and if your employer refuses to cancel your visa, how would one go about getting a new job?
