|
|
Hello,
My boyfriend and I have been offered a couples job teaching English. We understand that you are required to have a medical exam to get the Alien Registration Card.
Are you required to undress for this? My boyfriend has a tattoo on his upper arm and some scarring from an accident. Neither are visible with a t-shirt on, will these be a problem?
It would be great to have some advice
Thanks |

I have about 85 hours worth of ink in me, none of which is visible when I wear work duds. Never had any problems anywhere in Korea - at health checks, at doctor's appointments, in saunas, running races, at the beach. |

Yes, there is a full body cavity search. Just like going to maximum security prison.
lol
Tattoos and scars are not medical issues. Is the tattoo offensive? |

If you post pictures we'll be better able to judge...
puhahaha...I'm sorry I couldn't help myself...
Korea only cares about tattoos if you commit a crime. The media uses them as definitive prove that ....tsk tsk...seeeeeeee he is a bad man! |

Ok thanks, no the tattoo isn't offensive, its just a pattern.
So just to confirm do you or don't you have to undress for the medical check? |

You change into a robe that they provide for you. I think mine was long-sleeved. |

imogen22: I get the feeling that you're concerned that the screening will disclose that you have tattoos to your employer, thus causing issues at work.
If so, I wouldn't worry about it; the screening is to make sure that you're not a health risk, not to ensure that you comply with Korean customs/didn't lie about not having tattoos on your application form. |

Is the tattoo a popular drawing of marijuana? |

You have to pee in a cup. Can't remember if I had to remove my shirt for the chest x-ray, but my pants definitely stayed on the whole time. |

You do have to fully disrobe, but they have robes. You change into these robes in private. The doctor doesn't physically inspect you, they take an x-ray. It is the quickest part of the examination. But your director most likely be the one taking you there though, and someone needs translate for you. I don't think they will be checking for tatoos, nor do I think that would work against you. I wouldn't worry about it. |

If exposing your elbow counts as disrobing, then sure, you have to 'disrobe'. Otherwise, no. Maybe at some hospitals this is different, or else you were wearing clothing not fit for an x-ray shot.
If you don't want to remove your shirt for the chest x-ray, wear a plain cloth t-shirt as undershirt.
If you teach at a public school, your managing co-teacher is most likely to go with you to help with paperwork and instructions. |

What part of korea are you getting the test in. Different hospitals have different regulations. At mine in Ulsan, no one undressed, but girls did have to take off thier bra. |
