Is it good from the time you get the apostille or when they issue the fbi or when you get it back from the fbi.

Along these same lines, how early is too early to get the FBI background check? I won't be trying to get a job till July 2012, but if I get it back months early is it is big deal? |
Once you get the CBC back, it's good for 6 months (2 months of which might be used waiting for the DOS to apostille it, unless you use apostillepros or walk it in....long walk from Seattle ). And might take a little time to land a job once you have all your docs ready. So plan accordingly. |

Quick Question: Sent in my docs. Got the CBC. Lost the CBC. Can I request for a new one without sending in my fingerprints/docs again? Has anyone done this? Thanks much. |

Call the FBI, but you probably have to start over.

Just FYI - got my background check returned today. Here's the breakdown for the time it took:
Fed Ex ground shipment from Seattle: 7/15/11
FBI received request: 7/21/11
Charged credit card: 8/29/11
Fed Ex returned to me in New York (I've moved since sending): 9/22/11
Overall time frame door to door: 10 weeks.
I sent off during the busy period before fall school start, so if you're sending now, might take less time. I'm expediting the apostille - should have back next week. Then, hopefully, time to land a job ASAP ! |

Thats a long time. Government is super slow. How can the U.S. operate like that?

I sent off for mine back at the end of June, my credit card was charged on September 8th, and I'm still waiting. Unfortunately, I'm still not looking for a job as the FBI check and copies of my diploma still need to be sent out for apostille which is said to take another month. When I got my first job in early 2010, it only took one day to get a state police check and state level apostille by doing it in person. I flew and started work only 4 weeks after applying, but it could had been only 3 weeks as I sat on the returned visa stamp a few extra days to ensure I was ready to go. It's an excessively long wait to arrange these documents. |

I want to send out my FBI for apostille and when I got the finished check back in the mail it specifically states to send it to Dep O St. for the apostille. Then it has their fax number and email. What it doesn't say is if they need a form, letter, sticky note, or payment. I have emailed twice to ask and gotten no reply.
Do any of you know if all we have to do is send it back? It seems too simple and I really want to get this done quickly.
Also, has anyone used http://www.usapostille.com/?gclid=CKf04oyvvKsCFR5CgwodBHxJuw or http://www.goproex.com/? |

I think the information you need is here:
http://www.state.gov/m/a/auth/
I haven't heard of those apostille services. Teachers have used http://www.usauthentication.com and http://uslegalization.com/ with success. |

I used US Legalization - sent my CRC Fed Ex overnight last Thursday (9/22) and received today, Tuesday (9/27). The charge was a little less than $50 for the service, and about $60 for the shipping both ways. I'm not sure why it cost more to ship back to me than to send, but I got all my docs in hand now so I don't care. Take a photocopy of any documents you mail off (the CRC will show it's an unauthorized copy, but at least you'd have proof you had it in case something went wrong), and send it off - the money is worth it for the quick turnaround. |

I sent my prints and all the forms in a yellow sleeve envelope. But for the prepaid return envelope I just included a regular-sized envelope with a postage stamp on it; that should be ok right? |

I think that would be fine, since they're only sending the CRC and the sheet that authenticates it for the state department apostille. From what I've read on here, it'll take a few more days, maybe a week, to send through the regular mail (and you can't track it on the way). The weight should be fine with just a regular stamp, but I believe the USPS will deliver anyway and you just pay the extra postage, if necessary. If you used a credit or debit card to pay for it, you'll see the charge come through on your account, and then you can call the FBI (contact is listed on the website, call first thing in the morning) and ask them when they'll send it out. Mine took ten weeks door to door, but that was during the busy summer time frame, so maybe it'll be quicker for you - good luck! |

"EPIK will only accept criminal record check which issued after 26th August 2011"
"EPIK will accept earlier issued CRC for initial process but you must submit extra updated criminal background check no later than 20th January 2012)."

Did you have to start from the beginning?
