| Never trusted the cleanliness at a lot of those places. I've heard of people getting sick from them. Especially the ones that don't have proper kitchens. |

There's a place in Daehakno now. They have borek and simit, which are both okay but not great. I'm vegetarian so I don't know about kebabs. I think their main seller is the ice cream, which I'm not a big fan of.
Also, of the three or so times I was passing by and stopped in to ask about simit (the place is called a simit bakery!), they didn't have any. |

| Is there really any wonder half of these places shut down? A few of them had moderately decent business and within 2 years we had "Kebab Wars" in Itaewon and Hongdae with new shops opening up side-by-side to get a piece of the action. People simply got burned out. It used to be a novelty and a treat to see a guy carving on the side of the street, but now it's an annoyance as every venue you walk out of has some guy barking. |
Unfortunately, when some Middle Eastern joints open, several others open right next to each other, which is dumb. In Richardson, Texas, there used to be a few Middle Eastern joints and hookah bars, then tons opened next to each other hurting each other's business. Definitely, some will remain and thrive. I hope the Turkish guy in Itaewon is still there, the one who was sort of behind Gecko's in the alley. |

kebab places work for foreigners, especially for brits, kiwis, skips because after a night out drinking its the go to food for the cab ride home!
but Koreans go and sit down and drink more soju with red pepper fish head soup!
big difference. those pojangmachas are packed! I mean hundreds of people in some of those big tents/converted tireshop at 6am.
Kebab shops have a couple of lonely foreigners, it's not enough to sustain the rents in these areas. |
