At my current school, I get paid by the class (ie 30x50 minute classes = 30 hours a week). My old school had 40 minute classes, which only counted as 40 ,minutes towards contract hours. Actually, at my old school, a teaching hour was 80 minutes, so I'm pretty happy now.

Also to consider that pay for a certain number of classes can protect a teacher.

For example, if you contract for 100 classes a month (50 minutes each) for x amount of money and if the school has a slow patch and cannot provide that many classes, the teacher still gets paid the same salary.

Overtime can also be added above and byond the basic salary.

The door swings both ways.
