I really think that foreigners living here should leave it up to the Korean authorities whether or not we celebrate Halloween.

I'll be writing my mayor for permission. Fingers crossed!

you're being paranoid. You misunderstood. Halloween isn't a national holiday in North America, either

NO KIDDING!!! You people are so weird. You can't handle any different opinion from your own and you hate it when your American ways are not blindly accepted and adopted. You people have the chips on your shoulders.

That sounds like a kind of prejudicial comment. If I said Koreans are weird, that would be a form of prejudice. You're also assuming that I'm an American. I am not an American by birth. I'm a Canadian by birth, though I became an American. I also speak three languages, and speak some Korean. You're making an assumption above about how I think or don't think and the complain about others forcing their opinions on you.
Aren't you contradicting yourself? I don't believe in anyway blindly following anything. I just made the point that Japan came up with white day first before Korea, and Koreans follow White Day. I see nothing wrong with Koreans celebrating Halloween if they think it's fun and want to do so.

I wonder why you and others think Korea should adopt western ways and cultural practices? Korea isn't western and has their own cultural practices.

The US adopted a German festivity called Oktoberfest. Some Korean bars and places are adopting it for the sake of drumming up business. That's not our fault. That's the choice of Korean companies, as well. We live in a multi-cultural world where people are co-opting each other's celebrations for various reasons. I am not calling for Korea to adopt Western cultural practices. By the way, Korea adopted some holidays from Chinese culture. Seollal originates from China, not Korea. People do adopt cultural ideas from others. It's done in many countries. I understand you're trying to protect your culture and don't want Koreans blindly adopting foreign celebrations. It's going to happen to some extent. It's unstoppable due to how the cultures are mixing. You will see Oktoberfest celebrations in parts of Seoul and Koreans taking part. Is it truly a threat to Korean culture to adopt something like that that is German and enjoy sausages and good beer?

Seriously, its not like Korean holidays are no longer being celebrated. All that is happening is new ones are being added on and the bars and pubs are cashing in.

I mean as an apologist, isn't this the kind of thing that makes Koreans just like everybody else, contrary to people that pooh-pooh Koreans?

But apparently its from the far-fringe of the apologista sphere that this is an issue... Rolling Eyes

The logic espoused by the previous posters (not me) is very superficially based and fail to see where they make their mistakes. But I have said my opinion and leave it at that.
