i worked with one of the bigger recruiters similar to Footprints and they were pretty bad about their communication. they weren't interested in what i wanted, and just sent me a bunch of terrible job offers in horrible locations. i don't think they ever asked me to exclusively use them though.
however, the recruiter i did end up using specifically asked me if i was using another recruiter. i told him that i wasn't, even though i was planning to contact other recruiters later. but this guy always kept me in the loop, so i never ended up having to contact another recruiter. it was so refreshing to have someone actually communicate with me and keep me updated. anyways, eventually everything worked out, and in about 2.5 weeks, i had the job i wanted and a signed contract. overall awesome experience.
honestly, i think you can approach it both ways. you can flood the recruiters and the schools with your CV, or you can choose a trustworthy recruiter to market your resume to their own pool of schools they work with. |

proverbs, mind sharing that recruiter's name? PM is okay, too.
Ask Footprints if you're the only person they're trying to get a job for...it works both ways. They've all got a nice song and dance at first but the true test of a solid recruiter is after you reject the first crappy, 10 hour a day kindergarten job they send, do they still respond to your emails? |

| It's funny because a recruiter that goes by Scott (EZ English) emailed me but it didn't seem too professional. He also has an "if you are serious to come to korea, pls make skype Id and call or add me . that's the best and fastest way to find your jobs" request. I'm going to go on and contact him though, because I can always turn down crappy jobs. |

I always write a bcc mass email to about 50 recruiters and schools with a good cover letter and my docs and pics attached. I bold the parts pertaining to salary expectations, locations and type of student etc.
I advise this even moreso in the current market.
If there is a very niche position I will tailor my cover letter and resume for it, but for ps, as and hakwan jobs I just go with the cluster bomb approach.
I can see nothing from their website as to why footptints is better than any other recruiter. It is a business world, they are looking for the best match and so are you.
Cast your nets far and wide.
No pun intendeed. |

So which recruiters did you end up applying too?

First time poster here and a complete newbie to the entire realm of ESL teaching. I'm planning on going through a recruiter since this is my first time applying for a teaching job overseas in Korea and stumbled across this little bit of information on my recruiter's (Footprints) page.
"First things first, decide if we are right for you. If you want to be a Footprints teacher or you want representation from us don't waste our time by applying elsewhere at the same time. Give us an opportunity to work for you. Our time is incredibly valuable and because we don't charge you for our services its really important to us that you don't waste our time"
Is this true?
Can I really only apply to one recruiter at a time? I really don't want to put all my eggs in one basket and hopefully I can get some veteran's advice on the matter.
Thanks in advance guys! |

As someone that just received a job and had several of them fall through: use as many recruiters as you can email.
I've had my documents for some time (month+) I felt like I wanted to use one recruiter in particular, but they ended up offering more pretty much nothing. I was lazy. But then started emailing around 4-5 different recruiters a day and *BAM* a job comes along in about a week.
Be patient. I haven't been working since mid-July, because things have been taking way longer than I was expecting them to. My mood has been like a roller coaster since I have been super anxious to get a job and things kept coming along and then not panning out.
The fact of the matter is, if you're persistent and actually want a job, one will come along. |
