|
|
I received a Bold 9700 from a friend. The phone was originally with Telus in Canada but my friend used it on Bell. Does this mean that it already unlocked as it was used on 2 different systems? I put my SIM card in from the Blackberry I already have but it says the SIM was rejected (although it does recognize SK Telecom as the service provider).
If it's not locked, anyone know where and how much it costs to unlock this phone for Korean use?
Thanks. |

Actually, since it was used with Telus and Bell that means it already is unlocked. SIM rejected doesn't mean the phone isn't unlocked, it means that the service provider doesn't recognize your IMEI number in their registry.
What you do need to do, is go to a local SK Branch Office. (Jijum, not daerijum) and register your phone with them. They'll ask for your IMEI, MAC address, and PIN number so it's a good idea to write them down before you go. You'll also need your E2 card or a passport if you just want pay as you go.
You can also go to a KT branch office but then you won't get access to nice BIS blackberry services, you'll only be able to use it as a regular phone.
Whichever provider you go to, make sure it is a BRANCH office, not a regular walk in place. Walk ins are located everywhere, branch offices are usually one or two per city.
BTW registration is free of charge. |

Thanks. I ended up just getting the new 9900 The handset is free when you sign up for a 55,000 KRW plan which is actually cheaper than what I'm paying right now. |

I currently use a Telus unlocked 9700, but I pay more than 55,000 a month for my phone plan, could you provide more information on getting a BB9900 for that 55,000 won price.
How long did you sign up for? What further details should I know if I want to get the same thing. I've been here about a year but my visa has been extended 6 more months, I am guess I am not eligible for the same deal because of the dates on my visa, but I would certainly try.
Cheers! |

I was going to take the unlocked Blackberry 9700 hooked up but I thought, what the hell, I'm just going to get a new one. So I went to an SK kiosk and asked about the priced. They said it was free with the unlimited 55,000 KRW plan for 2 years. I just have to pay the taxes on the phone which is less than 2,000 KRW. I used the same number and I have an F-4 visa (not that it makes a difference because he said it was free before I gave him any info).
I was a little surprised at first since my friend also got the 9900 but he's paying 24,000 KRW a month to pay off the phone. I think he's on a cheaper plan though. He has an E-2 (again not sure if that makes a difference).
I would suggest just walking in and inquiring about it. Apparently the 9900, iphone 4 (16 GB), and Galaxy S2 are all free with that plan.
The plan that I had expires in 2 months so I just paid that off. Also, when I first got my BB 9000 2 years ago, I was paying around 12,000 KRW for BIS; it's now 4,000 KRW. So I got a new phone and I'm paying way less every month for my bill. |

Thanks for the info. I am sure I will have some issue because I am an e-2 and the duration of time left on my visa is under 6 months, but I'll give it a try anyway.
How's your new 9900? Blackberry is becoming the dinosaur of phones, heading towards extinction but I can't pull myself away to get an I phone or a Android device. |

I didn't start reading the reviews until after I actually got the phone. It's heralded as the best Blackberry ever and I can attest to this after owning 3. It's super-fast and doesn't freeze up like other berries. The touch screen is a nice touch but I'm so used to the trackpad/ball that I rarely use it. That's actually one of the reasons I like BB but also because all my friends back home use BBM. I use email a lot for work which is the most important reason I have a berry (physical keyboard). I've tried typing on my wife's Galaxy S and my coworkers iphone but I don't like it.
On top of that it's super slick and isn't prone to scratches with the brushed aluminum and carbon body.
I definitely recommend it. |
