Had the Southern Boy (steak and cheese), then bought the Billy T. (minced meat and cheese) to take home.
Gotta say, pretty delicious.
My grandma's from England and she makes a mean meat pie. The dough tasted exactly how I remembered my Gram making it. I remembered her boiling pigs feet to get the collagen and there would always be that clear, jellylike goodness in the corners of the crust inside. Ate it warm and cold. Mmmm.
But Jesters, I give it a solid 8-9 out of 10. Good job Aussies!
Of course my Korean fiance got the pizza one. I strongly urged her not to get it because it looked like spaghetti inside, and predictably she hated it. I wonder how the Koreans will take to it. It seemed to attract some on-lookers outside looking at the menu, and there were 2 couples inside eating when I went in.
This was the new one that opened in Bucheon. |

I tried three of their pies, and a sausage roll, and as a South African, I felt they were incredibly disappointing.
Now, we eat a lot of pies just like the ones Aussies call 'meat pies' back home, also with a lot of variety (chicken peri-peri, bacon egg and cheese etc) along with the standard ones, like chicken and mushroom, pepper steak, steak and kidney etc. A pie back home costs about 10 rand, less than two 'Merican dollars.
That's not the issue I had with Jester's though, besides the weird pies they had on the menu (pizza pie? Their shouldn't be pizza ANYTHING, if I want something that tastes like a pizza I'll get a pizza), the flavor and filling was lacking. The pies were runny, more watery sauce than actual meat, and the sausage roll was very odoriferous, which manifested itself in the taste, too. |

100% agree. No where near to what real Australian pies are supposed to taste like.
Won't knock them completely as they would be helpful at 3am or when you are too lazy to cook but if it is a taste of Australia you are looking for it def is not Jesters. Just like McDonalds is a poor substitute for a real hamburger. |

Better than the meat pies, but I'd still rather put that 3000 towards a pie that is actually good. If you're going to the one in Itaewon there are much better fruit pies around. |

I found them about on par with a decent chip shop pie in England. Had the pepper steak one.
Twice the price though and a tad on the small side. I'd need at least 2 and that would be around 7k and still wouldn't fill me up much.
Wont be frequenting there often, but good pies all the same imo. YMMV. |

I thought the meat pies are better than the fruit pies. The one with the eggs and bacon is the best. |

i had the pavarotti today (chicken carbonara) and it was incredibly sub-par. no bacon (wtf). it was pretty much just cream sauce with a couple flecks of parsley and a few pieces of chicken.
bland and a complete waste of money. |

Where abouts in Bucheon is the Jesters? I checked the website and it appears to be near the big E-mart in Joong-dong but can you give me more specific directions? |

the directions are hard to explain. Its behind the Emart, but not the first street, its the second one I believe--ok try to picture this: the first street behind E-Mart cars can drive on, but the next "kind of" street down is only for pedestrians lined with shops. It's there. You can see it from the main street running between E-Mart and Hyundai Department store on the left.
Sorry, I am horrible at directions. |
