Nice. So what race would you deem as acceptable for you, as a good looking guy, to marry?

Kind of tough for the guy. Asian-American actors don't exactly have their phone ringing off the hook for roles, so he's forced to take anything that comes his way. Gets attacked by the Asian community for taking a role that isn't agreeable to his race, but he still has got to pay the mortgage. Maybe he should have taken his chances in Korea like so many Korean-American wanna-be entertainers, 10x better chance, but still 1 in a million chance... |

I had a friend in Korea who did some acting gigs. He was an American and had experience acting. The script he was given was bad. He was not allowed to veer off the script.
When he tried to "act" he said the director would start yelling at him. After a few hours of that, he just went through the motions as rigidly and awkwardly as possible. That is when the director finally praised him and said it was perfect. |
Yes, it does suck badly. I've gotten scripts as the Director was yelling "quiet on the set...and...action!.." It really bites. Scripts need to be as natural sounding as possible. Also, actors need time to memorise scripts. Remember, it's what the Director wants. |

Why are bringing race into it? Let's be honest, most guys that marry here aren't the most attractive dudes. You can't blame them though, they have much better options here than back home. Just being a foreigner naturally bumps you up a few levels, at least for those Koreans that are into foreigners.
And yes, they're goobers. I have yet to meet one just "normal" guy that puts down roots here. I guess you have to be a little off tilt to come and stay in the first place though. |

So, how come you're talking about 'them' and they? I'm assuming You came here and so by your logic you have better options here than back home. If not, how would you have an opinion about it? Some people might say you're an even bigger goober for not being attractive enough for anyone to want to marry you. Yes, yes I'm sure you're great and get K girls falling at your feet begging you to marry them but you're too much of a free spirit to have some chick tie you down etc...but you're not exactly in any position to come off as superior. |

Yeah, I'll never begrudge a guy for collecting a paycheck...
If I was a white Russian and someone offered me an easy 2 grand for saying "YeeHaw, I'm a cowboy" I'd do it.
If someone back home offered me an easy 2 grand to say "Come to Master Tsai's House of Wok" while wearing a straw hat I'd do it.
Now, doing a minstrel show might be another thing, but reality is what it is. Grey here, not black and white. |

I would guess by the tone of the post that weso1 is either an unattractive foreign chick or a dude who can't get a girl to like him, so it's all sour grapes. Either way, he/she obviously has no respect for Korea by implying that no sane person would want to live there, or foreigners who see their sojourn abroad as more than an extended spring break.
As the OP, I say let's get this thread back on track...what about GOOD foreign actors in K-dramas? |

This reminded me of the 1993 film Falling Down, which portrays a Korean shop keeper, played by a guy with Chinese origins judging by the actor's surname. |
Well, he sure fooled me - with that angry looking little face. |

| Anyone else catch that episode/segment on Surprise that featured the "Prince v. Michael Jackson" rivalry? The guy who played the part of Michael Jackson was a white Eastern European with shoe polish on his face - but on the plus side, he did his own dancing. |

I've done a few tv shows, movies, and commercials - and this is SPOT ON.
The bad acting you see on tv is only 50% the foreigner's fault, IMO. |

| Not K-Drama, exactly, but the guy who played the U.S. President in Good Morning, President (굿모닝 프레지던트) was truly awful, as if he got bombed before filming began for the day. |
