Hey guys,
Just got my Visa issuance number today from Korean Immigraton.
I did my CBC through the Winnipeg police services. No-where on the CBC form is the RCMP mentioned.
However it very specifically states that a check of the 'Federal Criminal Database' was done.
The turn-around on the Winnipeg check is about 1 month from time of mailing. Finger prints are NOT required. You can do this check entirely by mail. I did it from Korea.
I am a resident of Ontario, you do not have to be a resident of Manitoba to get this check done. The fee is $32.50 cdn.
Here is the website for anyone interested: http://www.winnipeg.ca/police/RC/info_request.stm#crim_record_search
Good luck. |

This is how all background checks should be. Fill out a simple form, get a piece of paper back.
Done this through the Winnipeg police many times, thumbs up to them for making a solid criminal record check available to all Canadians. |

Interesting. I did this through the Winnipeg police twice. However for my last job I was told that this was unacceptable and that I MUST get a RCMP check. I was told this by the head of the POE of my province.
Yeah the Winnipeg police seem pretty on the ball overall. |

Looks like the Winnipeg City Check has changed. I remember seeing a notice about them not doing by mail check by a certain date. Looking at it now it has nothing about sending in. Two options now in person or an online check one which I am guessing is not going to be accepted by the Consulate.
Many Municipal checks are changing or are restrictive. Edmonton does not do by mail, but Calgary will. Halifax does by from a distance with some online one. But many of these city checks want people to have lived in the area or come in person.
People start getting your papers in early! My advice is make the CRC like your toothbrush get a new one every six months.
