I thought it was optional to purchase preselected seats but it seems the site won't let you go on to the purchase screen unless you click the agreed with the terms thing, which charges you at least 12,000 won extra for the seats.

Anyone else experience this?

If they want to do that then add it to the original ticket price.

I ran into something like that on the Air Asia site concerning buying trip insurance. There was only "accept" and "cancel". Cancel sounded like cancelling the order, so I had to go on with accept. I learned on future purchases that cancel meant "proceed without insurance". Anyway, that's another airline and another option. But maybe there is another button there besides the "accept seat assignment" and it may look like "cancel" but not really be cancel (like on the air asia site)
Anyway, good luck,

Ryanair website is chockablock with these little schemes. Is it really worth the bad will people feel towards your business for trying to hustle them for the little amount of money they make extra?

I bought tickets last month for Xmas to the Philippines and did not have to choose my seats. However they do have charges for baggage now which is okay since it offers you different allowances. The one advantage with buying a seat now, for the extra charge, is that it allows you to get your boarding pass online 24-48 hrs before the flight (Web Check-in). This can save you some time waiting in long lines. My ticket for Xmas was 275,000 total, with prices like that I'm not going to complain about an additional 12,000 won for seat selection if it means missing long lines.

All I'm saying is that if it's mandatory, then say so.

Huh? It's not mandatory! At least it wasn't as of last week. All you do is click on the "I agree to terms" and forward you go. Just make sure you don't click on the image of the seating arrangement. Really what difference does it make if in the end the airfare is half of what you would pay if you flew on Asiana, Korean Air, or Philippine Airlines?

I do empathize with the airlines though. You have people showing up at the airport in gangs, at the last minute, and expecting to be seated together. Maybe by having people pay for a seat you can get the seats you want in advance before getting to the airport. If you don't pay for the seat, then I guess you risk not being able to sit with your loved ones or friends. Fair trade-off I'd say!

I personally like the system they have set up, lots of promos, pay only for what you need (e.g. check-in baggage), pre-check in boarding passes, and cheap fares. And for the most part over many years of flying with Cebu Pacific I've never really experienced any delays. Personally I see nothing to complain about, but obviously others will always find something to nit-pick.

Seat selection is supposed to be optional, and it was until recently. You didn't have to click to the terms box; all you had to do was to click continue.

We are talking about 12,000 won here right? You really feel this is a grievance worthy of airing on a message board? Especially when considering Cebu Pacific still offers the lowest fares of any carrier to the Philippines.

When I read this it reminds me of backpackers I've seen in the Philippines armed with their "Lonely Planet" guides arguing with a hotel desk clerk because the room rates aren't exactly the same as published in their guides. Rolling Eyes

Like I said, it isn't mandatory and to make it so without informing customers is bad practice. Get a grip, will ya?

Huh?... you have already stated it is mandatory! And don't they inform you when you go through the payment process. Where is the deception? How should they inform you? They've already stated it on their web site: http://www.cebupacificair.com/travel-services/seat-selector.html

You have a choice to pay it or not. You can always fly another airline. The bottom line for me is not in the details, but the final price I pay. What difference does it make how they slice it up? And again we are talking about a measly 12,000 won. Laughing Much ado about nothing!

Get a grip? Now you're just being childish Laughing

Uh, you still miss the point, little boy. You are SUPPOSED to have a choice in selecting seats with Cebu Pacific Air but during the last sale, it seemed that wasn't the case. I've never paid to select my seat with that airline because it was never mandatory, but perhaps due to a glitch in the site or other reason, it wouldn't let me bypass the select seat stage like it used to.

Maybe you don't care about 12,000 won but others do, especially me since I travel to the Phils often, so that sum can add up over time.

Yes, please get a grip.

Hahaha..little boy now?

So you will winge and whine over the fact that you have to pay 12,000 won to select your seat, instead of choosing another carrier. But in the end we both know you will book with Cebu Pacific anyways because it is still by far the cheapest over all fare.

I get you now, some people just enjoy complaining about nothing. Man I'd love to see you in action in the Philippines. Smile

I'm fine in the Phils, thank you very much. And like I said, it wasn't mandatory and I wish they would announce it if it was, that's all.

It ain't nothing but yeah, think whatever you want.
