| I'm not sure if I will be a lifer or if I will go back home after getting married. I'd really like to know how people who plan on staying in Korea are developing long-term financial plans. Some people have mentioned investing in stocks or buying houses. Are those the only (or best) ways available? |
It's always better to spread your savings around of course. rentable property and a stock market based pension for me. Planning to retire at around 55, though might continue to work part time. |

| While Thailand may be very nice for holidays, not all of us want to spend our retirement years being pestered for massages on sweltering beaches or playing pool with prostitutes. Some people may prefer the more traditional activities such as spending time with grandchildren or going for gentle walks in the countryside. You might want to take in a show occasionally that doesn't involve ping pong balls. This is specially true if you get married at some stage as I can't imagine there are many women who would see Thailand as somewhere they'd want to spend their twilight years. That's aside from any of the modern services and comforts for old people available in developed countries. |
yeah I just don't see how retiring in thailand can be as good as retiring in florida with all the great fishing, fantastic restaurants and nice clean shops. there's no comparison in my opinion. |
Each to their own. I'd take Thailand over Florida any day of the week - especially the spectacularly beautiful North. No comparison for me. But Thailand might not be as open to retirees. |

Really, Urban Myth? You are saving enough for retirement? On your 2.7 per month salary with no 401K? You want to live out your last days in Korea?

| EFL is a capricious profession at best and most people are not savvy enough to build up sufficient retirement funds. Sure, you can save a lot of money depending on where you work. But, how many teachers do you know who can save the requisite one million American that most financial advisors recommend? Not too many, I bet. |
|
WT you don't know me and I don't know you. I will say this...that if I couldn't make more than 2.7 million/month here...I'd probably go somewhere else.
And I would have no problem spending my last days here or in many other places. |
It is as simple as this. |

everyone has different priorities for retirement. Some want to live by the beach, Thailand the phillipines, 3rd world living. cheaper so to speak.
frankly I didn't find those countries cheap at all. sure you can live like the locals, if I want to be frugal I can be frugal back home too.. so why go there?
the weather? I can understand why many would go there who will not be married, or divorced etc. I have seen plenty of old men with local girls who seem younger than their grand kids, hey, if dying with a smile on your face and pumped up with viagra is your way of exiting this earth. SO BE IT.
for me.. I want enough money in my investments where I can spend my days moving from one place to the next, from 55-75 I want to be moving a lot, living in different countries, then from 80 on wards I would want to live somewhere with the best health care . or even better.. FREE CARE.
hey, maybe CUBA lol... |

I guess it's possible you'll still want to move around a lot when you hit your golden years, but I really can't imagine it myself, especially the 65-75 span. What if you break a hip?? |

Yes, but is there a country you can go to whereby none of them will be there? I doubt it..
Imagine X developing country with a massive placard at the airport saying "This is a developing country in a different continent to your country. Things may work here differently" and how quickly these people will whine about how it's not developed enough and things are different. |

God I've just watched all his recent videos. What is wrong with me?
Homeless for a while
Fired from a job at a 7/11
Got a tatoo of a girl he was dating's name
Then she dumped him
Reading between the lines he might have attacked/stalked her afterwards
Not been a great year for ol' goemonronin |

The great thing about these videos is that they make you feel better about your life. |

Here's a question that struck me after (finally) watching the videos - would you hire this guy? Based on what you see in the vids, would you hire him?
Honestly, he puts down part time jobs, but I'm not feeling that I'd hire him for much more than that. |
