Hey,
Just wondering what gift you gave to your boss when you arrived in SK? I'm leaving next week and don't know what to get?! Do you only give a gift to your boss? Bit lost on this one...
Advice is appreciated, thanks. |

Where are you from? Try something regional. Many bosses appreciate a nice whiskey, but some don't drink and it might be awkward. Perhaps you can ask a current teacher if your boss does drink. |

Thasnk NYC_Gal. I'm coming from Ireland so was thinking an Irish whiskey. I've asked for contact details for a foreign teacher at the school off my recruiter (I sopke with one but forgot to ask for her email address), but he seems more happy being the middle man.
Do I only buy a gift for my boss? If she doesn't drink what can I get her?
Thansk for your help |

Bring lots of small gifts, so that, in the event that you do feel that it would be the right thing to give gifts to others, you have them at hand.
Maybe some nice knitted scarves? Tea? Mugs filled with candy?
Best of luck! |

Bear in mind that there is no expectation of giving a gift to your boss upon arrival. This is not a home-stay, it's a job. |

I think people coming over shouldn't even bother worrying about bringing gifts for anyone. You coming over to teach English from thousands of miles away is a nice gift enough.
You may consider giving gift after six months working there. |

Do you typically give a new boss a gift in your home country? No? Then why are you giving one to your new boss in Korea? It's not a part of Korean culture to bring a gift when you start a new job, nor is it a part of Western culture to do it. To do so gives the appearance of looking at your Korean job like a study abroad experience rather than an actual work experience. |

Very true, northway. I packed a few things for just in case, and ended up giving them though. My first principal at my PS was awesome. The replacement my second year? Not so much.
It is expected if you renew and visit home, though. |

Nothing, I repeat nothing. You may want to bring some arse nick if he/she/it turns out to be one of the many twats of a boss you encounter in the Englishee industry!!! |

I would not give a gift. Just tell him or her thank you for the opportunity when you come here. You will be surprised to learn that most Koreans never say "thank you" or "excuse me". I don't know why because it wasn't like that when I first came here 30 years ago. |

Is that before or after they give one to me?
But seriously, I thought It was expected? Did anyone here bring a gift? What did they bring? |
